Anime The Dark Side of Anime

I don't really think any of those are the dark sides, though if I had to pick, I'd say hentai. I was gonna post about it somewhere, so this seems like the place, methinks:

I think some of the more dark things about anime are the occult undertones that go flying around everywhere. If you've been raised in certain religions (no offense intended), then you'll be harassed with comments about how anime is "diabolic" and how so-and-so is a representation of this evil truth, or how these words are in reality a spell that should never be spoken, how this looks like an evil being, etc, etc. That used to be the problem for me, but now since we've "been set free", as my mother puts it (*cheers*), I watch with less irritation. (Though, I must admit, it still taints me a bit. *brushes it off*)

Yeah I agree with you I had someone tell me tht anime was nothing more than an excust to see naked chicks on the screen.

 

I'm not saying anything about animated nudity in general, in fact, I despise all forms of censorship. My problem is with anything that uses sex and nudity as its only selling features. Some say that the only difference between art and pornography is that the government doesn't give grants for pornography, but I disagree. It's all context. A scene of brief nudity or even graphic sexual content does not bother me, but we all know that porn inevitably has the power to destroy any form of art or communication.

 

Ah, porn isn't that powerful. My dad used to write for Porno mags (soft core, not anything too graphic) so I saw it alot when I was growing up. you kinda get desensitised, it loses shock value and you just see a lame attempt at trying to convey one of the truly great things of this world- sex.

I didn't vote for any of the options because this is more how I feel about it, although the dubs are mostly crap as.

Legato, I concede your point, but there are still too many sick freaks out there. Hell, I play D&D with some of them. They destroy another great thing of this world - anime.

 

I empathise cactuar man. Though I dont any more, I used to roll play and when perverts get involved it ruins everything. On this particular subject though, I'd have to say that I agree with Vash and the other person are right, I mean. Not ALL dubs are evil.
(dodges eggs) The new "Akira" dub's okay (dodges tomatos) and as far as calling hentai evil is concerned, look at it this way.
Many would call Hand Maid May a hentai (the whole Master/Slave bouncing bits panty flash relationship).
But if hand maid may didn't exist then neither would Kotaro Nanbara. and I couldn't allow that.

 

I hate dubs but I hate Hentai more. People who produce hentai are mentally sick. They have to be ashamed of themselves !!

 

well! I absolutely HATE :bleed: dubs and hentai, I voted dub because It's the only reason why I don't get to see anime, without having to buy a video. ugh! but I also hate Hentai.

Even though I know no one cares, or bothers to read through three pages before sounding off with their own opinion, here is mine

Dubs are the suck. The absolute suck. But hentai is even more the suck. As has been mentioned, people think that is what anime is. Either that or *mon. I would soften my statement here, but no one is reading: *mon and drag-on-balls are also the bane of the adult anime fan. Well ok, I will clarify. They are the bane of anime fans like me. Which may only be me.

 

Geez, is this an American thing or something? I've never had anyone take me for a pervert because I like anime. They all just think I'm an overgrown 6 year old. The 'Japanese cartoons' shown on Oz TV have all been mangled by the Americans until there's nothing hentai, or even violent really, left in them. Where does the 'anime as porn' thing come from?

 

Whoah there, Toomaa. I don't like hentai, but saying the people who make it are mentaly sick is going a bit too far. The main reason I think it's the dark side of anime is because of the image it gives other anime, the image I have to deal with every day.

Yeah, sex as spectator sport is a bit puzzling really. I don't know if I really get the whole hentai thing.

Anime and hentai don't really mix, and in the whole industry of anime(anything to do with it) Hentai is really only a small percent. in America the porn thing comes about when ppl who call us porn lovers are really looking at it themselves. Or because the clothing looks revealing. You see, as much as I hate to say it most of America isn't mature enough to watch it, this includes ALL ages.
