    hey lo :7)

Personally I agree, I much prefer when the hero dies at the end or at least some variation on the usual sh1t. The only reason for this crap is stoopid American redneck 'will go to see it if it is popular'. (btw not every american is stoopid just so no one gets ****ed off with me) That is the reason I watch Manga(Japanese Animation) It rox cos of the waked out endings. Happy but not at the same time. Anyone who has seen Akira will know what i mean.

  3. Ok yeah you have a point. Lets look at some manga endings shall we (warning I have put the name at the start of each so if you have not seen the manga in question , do not look at the ending :
    • Akira : The city lays in ruins. Millions of sinners dead
    • Violence Jack Part 1 : All the women have been raped and Jack is after killing the queer Demon thing.
    • Patlabor II : We do not see it but as the film ends two giant blimps full of poison gas is plummet into a city.
    • MD Geist : Geist unleashes thousands of Dooms Day Devices which destory mankind. Er...

      lastly...
    • Ninja Scrolls : The ninja girls dead and the old man does'nt get any gold so Jubae goes drifting again.

Yes all in all you never really get a Manga/Anime with a happy ending.

Hmmm funny i was just talking about that today. Film as entertainment should have a happy ending - it makes people feel good.

The thing is not to mix up entertainment films with films which mirror reality. These dont generally go for a happy ending, but a realistic or moving ending. Anime movies are totally different, i think that moving is the goal there, or possibly the implication that it is not in fact the end - the story goes on (it did in akira).

Spoiler ahead: about Saber Marionette J-you've been warned

SMJ had a happy ending. It really shouldn't have had one though, it totally wimped out, just like 'Conspiracy Theory' Admitted, I would have hated the ending that should have been there, but it would have been better.

At least the end of the Eva TV series was a happy one!
And yes SMJ had a happy ending, albeit nigh unto impossible for how it happened. Yes I've heard lots of theories for why it happened, and quite frankly, none satisfies me.
And anyways, a happy ending is in the eye of the beholder, one mans happy ending is another man's (or maybe woman's) tear-jerker

I kinda coast to whichever way fits best...

As long as the happy ending doesn't seem out of place, there's no problem, but it's when a happy-shmappy ending seems completely forced into the storyline that I disagree with.

That's not because of the nature of the ending, but the way it was brought about...

I know what you're talking about BakaMattSu
    (BTW: Nice nick)
For instance, happy endings just don't fit in easily with series like Ranma½ or Eva or even (from the looks of it) Gasaraki.

I do not know if anyone of you have seen the series Kimagure Orange Road (KOR) but in that series there was no realistic way to have a relatively happy ending or an ending where one of the three individuals wouldn't get hurt. The realistic ending made me feel more for the characters at the end, even though I saw it coming I wouldn't have been satisfied if they had pulled the all happy friends forever kind of ending.

Didn't see that particular one, but that's just my take on things...If everything so far had gone rotten, how can we expect to suddenly swallow that and accept an entirely cheery turn of events (for no apparant reason other than providing the audience a happy ending...)

As for Ranma 1/2, I for one, would've rather had that happy marriage ending...After so much Akane and Ranma went through, I felt they deserved it...

I'm too lazy to look.. but The Violinist of Hameln had the most horrible ending of any anime, so horrible it made absolutely no sense, considering the manga ending was so happy! plus maybe SMJ was a bit sad cuz Lorelei wasn't as mushy towards Otaru as I wanted her to be..err.. maybe.

Fruits Basket had a happy ending with hope, but theres much sadness there too. I think any anime, if its really good, even if it has a 'good, happy' ending, will still have some lingering sadness somewhere. but hey.. what do I know..

If you want an unhappy ending look at the end of Tekkaman Blade.
Poor D-boy what does he get for saving the world? Complete amnesia. So depressing.

Happy endings? Those are for the weak

    MWAHAHAHAHA :p

only joking, I like happy endings, especially to kawaii series ^.^ The type of ending suited for an anime really depends on what sort of tone the series/movie has taken, like, its only natural... and common sense

To me though I usually prefer unhappy.... or more dark sort of endings. They seem more real to me, but that could just be my negative outlook on life >.<

As long as the ending suits the series, it shouldn't matter how its played out

Well, I don't mind whether an ending is happy or sad, as long as it's good.
And like those people long long ago said(they're probably dead by now...), happiness is in the eye of the beholder. For example, the DNA^2 totaly bummed me out because <*spoilersortof*> I preferred Karyn to Ami. Pffft, Ami, what did she ever do? Nothing for nobody. Karyn is a real woman. Ah well.
