Too true...even if the characters survive, it always kinda leaves us otakus in shock, I think: "What? It's...over?"

I can't help being torn between wanting to see afinale of an anime and wanting to never see it, so I don't hafta see a favorite anime end. Which is why I like anime with multiple seasons.

But also, I love sad, sweet animes, like oh, I don't know, Vampire Princess Miyu.

An ending is one that should leave you looking for more, but also leave you satisfied. Which is why we search out fanfics.

Its true! Most of the anime series these days does not have happy endings like those walt disney's cartoons. In the series finale there has to be a great tragedy. For example, the main character dies  or the group departes and goes their seperate ways :(

Endings in my anime-ish writings and such are so predictable. Nearly everyone always dies by the end, the world is left in an apocalyptic state with it being overrun with evil. YAY! :D

    DL, I can't agree more.

    mild spoiler alert for DNA²*********

The end of DNA² just sucks for Karin. No way around it. The end of the manga is just as bad. Aargh! Of all anime characters, she deserves shiz the least. (see my post in the crush thread hehe)

Larger spoiler alert for Onegai Teacher**********

Another happy ending that just shouldn't have been was Onegai Teacher. They had to jump through so many hoops and bend themselves backwards to pull out a happy ending. for cryin out loud.. and that series had descended so far into sap, that I really didn't feel happy about it, it just meant that they could squeeze in even more sap at the end, continuing right on through to the credits noooooo!!!!!! That series started out so funny.. well, we were laughing at the end, in a MST3k kinda way :D

    end spoiler mode *********

UK, speaking of Gasaraki (well you were, months and months ago) I was beginning to wonder if it would have an end at all..

Utena's ending was uplifting, because rather or not Utena (highlight blank space for spoiler) really died or just left Akio's reality is an open-ended question. And Anthy's decision is certainly a positive thing...

WeiB Kreuz just didn't really *end*, at least not in a coherent way... but then, what about that series really *is* coherent?

    I'm just kidding, WK fans.

Armitage III: Polymatrix (the first one, and the mini series. Polymatrix is just a streamlined version of the four OVAs) has an incredibly happy ending. I'm too tired to spoil it. And most of you have probably seen it, anyway.

And I consider almost everything I've seen by Miyzaki to have an incredibly positive ending despite the horrible things that happen. Mononoke and Nausicaa, for example, are, to me, on par with Greek Tragedy; devastating but ultimately uplifting.

In fact, I think many animes, and not just Miyzaki's work, have elements of Greek Tragedy. And Tragedy is ultimately positive and regenerative, if still sublimely horrifying.
