My apologies if this has already been posted... I am new and haven't read everything yet.

I have noticed that there are several characters and places in Gundam Wing that use either French numbers or variations of them, as names. Here is a list, and I know there are others (just can't recall them off the top of my head). If you know French, please contribute - I'd like to see what a complete list looks like! %^)

    # - french word - character/place name
    1 - une - Lady Une
    2 - deux - Duo Maxwell
    3 - trois - Trowa Barton
    4 - quatre - Quatre Rebaba Winner
    5 - cinq - Sanc Kingdon
    6 - six - Zechs Marquise
    7 - sept - General Septem
15 - quinze - Quinze of White Fang

My French is a little rusty (so, "PARDON MY FRENCH!") so it might not quite be right... but I had noticed this while watching the show. There are more, but I can't remember then and since (sadly) the Gundam Project website has been taken offline, I cannot check the character list and synopsis for others.

    Interesting naming convention, no?

I don't get connection #6. Could you elaborate?
    Otherwise, that's pretty cool, methinks.

Hmm, I think I'm getting my languages mixed up... the word "Zechs" is the GERMAN word for six, isn't it?

There was one other that seemed to use a German number:

9 - Neun - Lucrezia Noin (both pronounced "noyn")

I know that there are others, I am just drawing a blank here...

    And I forgot - good catch, S. - Treize = 13. I think there are a couple others, but I can't remember the character/place names offhand.

PURAZUMA - there's a funny little guy in the Ganbare Goemon videogame (for the N64) who calls himself "Plasma", but of course in Japanese it's "PURAZUMA!!" This wouldn't happen to be what you're referring to, is it? %^)

    Wahay!

That's absolutely correct! Give the man a prize! Not really, but with The Price Is Right celebrating 30 years with Bob Barker (though I don't think that's a cause to celebrate ...), I thought I'd go a little game-show over here ...

Yeah, it's a Ganbare Goemon reference. That's one of the greatest game series out there. It's always good to see someone recognize a bit of my mischief for it's subtle sense of art (or whatever you want to call it ...). The other half is Army of Darkness, if anyone wanted to know.

Now, as for the subject of this thread, thanks for clarifying the Zechs thing. I thought I was losing my mind ... it has been a few years since I took French classes ...

Too much!! :D I thought I was stretching it there, but it was right on! My son and I love the Goemon games (I have both N64 titles and a couple SFC/SNES titles)... I even collect the cels from the anime!

As for Gundam Wing numerical references, it's gonna drive me NUTS! Is there a character list anyplace? There used to be a great one at http://www.gundamproject.com, but SADLY, Mark Simmons (webmaster) has taken it down permanently. This was THE most complete Gundam resource on the net. And it would have had my list of characters... I know there are others, it might even be more places (like the Sanc Kingdom). I don't think any of the mecha (either side) has the numerical references, they stick to the Gundam names and signs of the zodiac, if I remember correctly...

    Official

    What about www.gundamofficial.com ?
They're the official site, so they might have something. Of course, I've never been there myself ... Where does the time go?

More like alot of Diff languages.

It's true, there's also Treize for Thirteen. But Duo is more like I dunno, something Spanish maybe or something like it and Noin is a mispronunciation of Nine. Had ya noticed? Umm, what else, uh. There's Milliardo! That's like, a million or a thousand.

    Duh.

Well, I knew that but I didn't exactly mean spanish I mean, one of those languages, because Duo sure isn't deformed Deux in french.

Actually, I thought it used some german numbers..
noin, sounds just like neun (9) (pronounced .. noin), and zechs sounds just like Sechs (6) (pronounced well, zechs).

seems like they nabbed a lot of numbers for names..

    Wufei

And according to a friend of mine, Wufei's name breaks down to the following in Chinese:

    Wu= Five
    Fei= Fly

    Pretty sweet, huh?

~ Lady Aoi: not really a Wufei fan

    Sugoi!

Well, you learn something new everyday! I love German, it's so much like english! And the only thing I knew in chinese before was how to say, hi, how're you. And I don't even know how to spell it, so I'll sound it out.
Hello: Nihow (or something like that)
    Hello, how're you: Nihow ma?

A conversation with me in chinese:
Chinese person: So, how about them cubs?
    Me: Hello!
Chinese person: Yeah, um, so who do you think'll win the cup?
    Me:Uh...Hello, how're you?
Chinese person: You like the Rams, lost didn't they?
    Me:Uh...Hello!

How can you say that? Canada's gonna win, of course!
And I say that, of course, in jest. Like Canada can win any sport other than igloo-building or polar bear-hunting ...

    GENTATSU: Go Lions!
NO: Dude, the Lions are an NFL team.
GENTATSU: I thought we were watching football ...
ZANSHI: Cretins! What we know as soccer is football everywhere else.
CC61: Even if this was the NFL, why would you go for the Lions?

Well, at least we invented Hockey and Basketball!

I think we can safely say canadians did invent basketball and hockey so we can't be bad at those sports, at least not too bad. For football (soccer), I'd go with Brazil.

...and don't forget the almighty lacrosse! There are *plenty* of worldwide competitions there!

BakaMattSu, note the extreme sarcasm here...

Re: Well, at least we invented Hockey and Basketball!

We invented American football too. They claim that they did, but if that's true, then why was the first-ever game played against a Montreal team?

Now just for my incessant annoyances, isn't it Brasil, with an s? I could be wrong though ...

    GENTATSU: Go Lions!
    NO, ZANSHI, CC61: SHUT UP!
