The two shows that did this for me the most were Dragon Drive and Princess Tutu, hence them being at the top of my favorites list. X/1999 the series also did this for me.

And to answer your question, KaiyonTormentor,
Yes, he did die. In the unedited series, you clearly see his guts spill out onto the ground when he is sliced open.

I'd have to agree with a majority of others.

    Cowboy Bebop.

The movie was better than a number of good live action movies in my opinion, and the end of the series made my bawl my eyes out for hours.

Final Fantasy U made me stand at the end of my seat and say WOW..... What a waste of my time!

Saber Marionette J, Trigun, and X(series not movie) were perfect :bleed:

The ending of Magic Knight Rayearth the first season was great and I wasn't expecting it. The show had, up to that point, been kinda cookie cutter and wholesome, but I guess that was just adding to the surprise at the end...

I also loved the endings of Cowboy Bebop and of (surprisingly) Tenshi ni Narumon.

As movies go, Spirited Away, it just blew me away! I was amazed by the beauty of all the work involved story and animation-wise.

Right now if I think about it, I'd say R.O.D. OVA - rip roaring action left me on the edge the whole way! and Fullmetal Alchemist - that's hard to accomplish because it was 51 episodes.

cowboy bebop was ok but i think battle angel alita was one that blew me away, just because of losing a main character like they did. it was shock, and i was alil dissapointed, yet it was a good movie to say the least. gunnm(the other title) was a real anime in all ways. blood, sex and a bounty hunter....ah, i feel right at home with it.

    Wolf's Rain

I'd have to say Wolf's Rain. not only does it keep me at the edge of my seat, but it does make very emotional . . . (hint hint last episode . . .

Yeah, I think most of us said "wow" at the end of Pokemon. As in, "Wow, that sucked." :D

Myself, I didn't bother to watch it after they went on that sea voyage or whatever with that weirdo artist. I can't remember his name. I'm curious, though, as Ash caught all 150 yet?

Anyway, I figured I'd mention a few others. As I, and others, have said, Saber Marionette J is perfect. It is the only series that was so great I fell in love with the characters. I honestly cried when it was over.

I said "Wow." when Excel Saga ended. That's, "Wow, that had to be the most bizarre series I've ever seen." Excel Saga truly is the most insane piece of insanity to ever exist.

Slayers, not including the many OVAs, was also an excellent series. It's the pinnacle of fantasy anime.

    The list goes on...

I just finished Last Exile tonight. This anime.. I can't even really express it in words. It wowed me moment by moment episode by episode. It may be one of the most amazing animes I have ever seen. It really touched me, the whole anime, story, animation, music, was just this amazing and beautiful piece of work. If Spirited Away was the movie to blow me away, Last Exile is it's anime series counterpart.
