I'm not starting this thread to ask the question because I don't know. My beliefs tell me what my purpose is but I was curious what other people who don't necessarily share in my truth think their purpose for existing is.

So I ask you, what is the purpose of human existence?

I believe so. Like I said, I know what my purpose is, but even if someone doesn't share my beliefs they have to believe they exist for a purpose or reason. If they don't then they have to except that their whole being in this universe is a mere accident and that they are utterly insignifigant.

For instance, I bet there are some people out there who would probably say that our only purpose in the world is to contribute to the food chain or something. I just wanted to hear other people's opinion on this long discussed philosophy.

Right, why would be a purpose?

Nobody has told me what is my purpose since I was born. Whatever religion I choose I may go to heaven or hell. So, from where I can find my purpose if not everyone is able to find it?

The question is unaswered no one know's for sure.

everyone has a purpose but just doesn't realize it.

It can be tied in with religion or at times an idividuals upbringing can have a purpose or the way a person is treated is somtimes the answer.

But truth is some people search their entire life to find their purpose and to no effect its different with every person.

I believe that everyone's purpose is different and its something that one has to find themself. I believe that my purpose in life is to try to be as helpful as i possibly can and help people realize that their life is always meaningful to someone even if they don't find it meaningful. I've done a fair job of it so far but there are still so many ppl i want to help.

I belive that EVERYONE has a purpose. Let's look at it this way, what if you asked Clous (or John) (sorry for using you as an example, quickest one i could think of) what was his purpose, i dunno, 9 years ago. He COULD have said nothing, but, in the future, we now know that his purpose was to build Boards.JP, Boards.IE, and Boards.US. Along with other great sites. So just because you don't know your purpose right now, does not mean you don't have one.

Once again i say, everyone has many purposes in life, even little ones. Another is you Neph. Your purpose a long time ago, was to become Nephlim_X at boards.jp, and right now your fullfingling it, as I am mine. So what i'm trying to say is that even though you may not know it, someone, whomever, it doesn't matter, knows that you have purposes in life, because it's those special people that see right through you, and somehow know the truth before you.

I'm sorry for going on and on like that. Did that sound too mushy?? Darn it!

Or we could just be doing random things based on our whims alone.

Well then, if that's the case, then that would be your purpose. No matter what way you look at it, anything you do, is something you were meant to do. Like i was meant to reply to your post, only because, your purpose was to reply my previous post.

Sorry for getting so spiritual or something on ya! I do that sometimes.

Most of the debates I've been involved in have involved spirituality at one level or another, so no, this doesn't sound weird. More just a way to twist a concept into one that agrees with yours. I'm arguing for the 'NO point at all' argument, not the 'its our specific purpose to not have a purpose'.

Yet if there is some point when one thing becomes too evil....Where would it stand for you? The line that is....

To tell you the truth, i don't know. Hey! Another purpose! To not know. (I gotta stop that!). I guess that only time will tell, friend. Feelings and emotions change you know? So, that's up to fate.

Your posts are so cute SakataKentaro I stay firm to the belief that everyone's purpose in life is different and is something that they find out for themself.

I believe that the purpose of life is to live life. That purpose makes sense to me...

This is what I always figured:

If there is no purpose to life then why not kill yourself and escape all the pain? Sure the pleasure would be gone to but death is inevitable and once you die you will cease to be so why wait? Some would argue why waste the life you have but if when you die you will no longer exist in any form what so ever then you will not realize you "wasted" your life, you would have to exist to realize that.

On the other hand if there is a purpose to all this then one should keep on living hopefully finding out what that purpose is. Maybe it does all mean something and maybe its not all a waste of energy.

Personally I'm obviously still alive. Ergo I am hoping there is a purpose to it all. I don't know if there is one, my belief in the existance of this purpose wanes like the moon at times but I always figured it cant hurt to try to find the meaning of it all. Worst case seniario I die and it all ends and I've lived out a long hard life for nothing but then...

    ...who cares

I really couldn't say what our purpose is, stopped trying to figure that out once I realised it was pretty pointless. Dying just sort of gives life a purpose, we are all given an amount of time and all that matters is what you do with yours, so I suppose life only has a meaning if you want it to.
Death, even though it's a big part of it, is not what life is about - that's a contradiction.

A being's purpose could be defined by a being's history. Unfortunately, In order to define human existence's purpose, humanity would have to take into account every history, which is pretty much at the moment impossible.

And why do you need to be so hasty by killing yourself? As there is not a time-machine to come back in time, we can't correct many things that we've done. What is left is to just live your life and analize what you've done. You may get an answer about who you were while you lived.

Eh, enough babbling. I hope you understood what I just figured out. Ah, and I repeat, no purpose at all
