I don't have sky-digi or any thing at home, but were I live on Sundays on the international channel they have DBZ in Japanese at 7:30pm and right after that they have Slayers.
This is not a anime, but before that on 7:00pm thay have HeyHeyHey, and before that a drama, both in Japanese.

I'll assume for a minute that you live in Dublin.

The best place to get anime/manga, make that the only place, is Forbidden Planet on the quays by Virgin Megastores. As far as anime goes they mostly have VHS tapes and a couple of titles on DVD(Akira, Ninja Scroll, Perfect Blue). They have some posters and a whole load of manga.
If you don't live in Dublin you might be able to find the odd anime title lying around in some video rental stores and in HMV, Virgin and in larger video store they usually have the odd anime title.

On tv the Sci-Fi Channel is your best bet. They show anime movies and occasionally a tv series. On Network two they have some butchered anime shows like Card Captors and Shinzo, there really not worth watching, but that's the americans fault.

If you do live in Dublin some people, I may be one of them, will probably organise an anime showing in Trinity some time in the next two weeks. So if it happens you could come along to that.

And lastly some advice. Enjoy it! Anime is the greatest addiction you can have ;). And as much as you can watch anime as it should be viewed, in its original Japanese with English subtitles.

    Good luck!

    thanks for the info.

im in tipperary, but some of my mates from college are from there (and i travel up occasionally for gaming lans and drinking) so getting stuff from this Forbidden Planet place shouldnt be that hard.

will watch out on sci-fi for anything. cheers.

Fox Kids and the Cartoon Network usually run some anime from time to time. Gundam Wing and DragonBalls Z are on every weekday at the moment and they've shown the Escaflowne series (albeit cutdown) and Blue submarine No.6 before.

Blue Submarine No. 6? I can't believe they'd show that, it's not really a kids anime. Was it edited?

They showed a compressed 2 hour "movie" version. I don't know how it compares against the full length collection but the CG battle scenes were nicely done (all played against this rather jazzy tune) :)

Cartoon Network are showing Blue Sub. 6 again right now.
    7pm every night this week.

I never watched it first time round 'cause the soundtrack and shite animation was enough to put me off.
I'm suprised they're showing it so early in the evening, there were a few clevage shots and the strange moaning kinda naked aqua woman thingy too :)

If you want anime on TV Sci FI channel 12AM every Saturday night is your best bet.
They were supposed to be showing Evangelion, Nadesico and Blue Gender every week starting on the 4th of May, no idea what happened with that though, they've been showing the usual movies instead.

I don't know why everyone likes Forbidden Planet, it's crap.
If you want to buy anime go online, waaay better selection of stuff.

and for not liking DBZ of all things.
Fair play to smak though. Cos it is pretty crap.
I think deep down most people know it.
Usually with something I don't like I could think of at least one good point.
Not with DBZ though. I'm at a loss. I can't think of one good reason to watch it.
    Wait!

If I only had two channels. DBZ was on one and Ibiza uncovered was on the other. If the was no off switch on the TV and I had really nothing else to do. Well maybe then.

A likeable enough cast of characters that have been developed over a very long period of time is one of the better things about it.

Just put it this way, DBZ is a damn sight better then Pòkemon, Digimon, Beyblade and every single one of those kiddie battle anime which flood the channels these days.
For fcuks sake, Den TV has Pòkemon followed by CCS and then Medabots on sometimes. You couldn't find more crap in an evening.

Ya see, comparing DBZ to Pokemon, Digimon and the like arguing which annoying pop princess or boyband is better. No matter which one has slightly more merits than the other I'm sure as hell not gonna go to either of their gigs!

Better anime may be rarer, but just cos it's rare isn't gonna make me watch more common crap ones. I mean, Ozzfest comes but once a year.

    Enough analogys!

I got over the watching anime just cos it's anime stage a good while ago.

(don't see this as a damnnation of you or anything Diablo, it ain't directed at you. It's just a rant)

I don't have didital either. I'm bitter about that too.

CCS is a quality anime. I'll admit that the dub is pretty damn bad, but I still watch it. If only to see how bastardised they make it, and because I can't get a hold of the sub. But the manga is really good. In short, don't dis it. I haven't seen DBZ, so I don't know, but don't put CCS in the same kettle of fish as the 'mons.

I admit I've only seen like 2-3 episodes of CCS, but it looks to follow pretty much the exact same formula as Pòkemon etc. It's no help that I'm far from a fan of Clamp anyway.

For me DBZ just doesn't fit in with the others, it's a much stronger and in many ways more adult orientated anime. You certainly can't say that it handles violence in the same manor.

From what I gather the Toonami version has been quite heavily edited so I am tempted to get the uncut bootleg VCD's.

Yeah out of all the edits I have read DBZ seems to have gotten the worst. It literally got ripped to shreds. One of the episodes only kept 12 percent of the orginal material. But just cos there is lots of blood and dead people in the original isn't gonna make it better. And the fights are still gonna be crap.
Yeah, DBZ is aimed at a different audience. When it was relesed the target audience was teenage boys.

I admit I haven't seen much of CCS but I saw about 30 seconds of it last week and I actually had to change channels cos the voice acting was so painful to listen too. Maybe it was a bad episode or something but I couldn't watch a series with that bad a voice acting. I actually surprised my self with this. Usually I couldn't give **** about the quality of voice acting. I never complained about it before. Maybe I'm just getting critical in my old age.

But until the formula of kids collecting creatures or things to do battle for them looses popularity, that's all we're gonna get over here. Sad huh. Surprising before anime popular the quality of what little shows we got here was far better.
    Kids watch anything these days.
