    ........... well with anime its really in the images, the story lies and not in the dubing........... this from the girl whose seen Sailor moon in 5 languages......^^;;;;

personally i'll watch Digimon, the backround art can be cool...... and either the script writers or dubbing people are REALLY insane........... i keep finding quotes from movies in the Dialogue ..................... the best was "The truth? You want the truth!! You can't HANDLE the truth!" said just like your man in a 'few fine men' or what ever its calles....... there's also some really bad puns disguised, and blatent jokes that no kid would understand.

((by the way M-H any help to where i should go next year Dl or Ballyfermot?????))

..........honestly any animation has to be really bad for me not to watch it........ like shi-chan on Fox kids........ but DBZ is like a John Grisham novel..... read a page a chapter and you know the entire story.......... watch a show a week and you know the plot............. and the animation bores me......... The original Dragonball was leagues better........... but to censor it for the UK and USA must of taken decades alone..........

i enjoy CCS ........... and GW and others of the like............. but things like Beyblades annoys the **** outa me..........
metabots i can handle cause the bot's are well drawn........

and i guess the new TRANSFORMERS is now classed as anime.......... but as a fan of the original .........its just NOT right to watch it..............

......................... ok that my 2 cents worth any way..........

    Shelly

Oh and if you want pysco cartoons....Invader Zim . on nickelodeon is kewl........ its like a cross between the hitchikers guide and .....um.......... damn i had it a minute ago........... well its distructive and mind bogling and more for adults with sick minds......................... its creater the comic book writer Jhohen Vasques is the most psycotic person i know of besides myself ......((I love SQUEE!!!!!!))................ its american and has a dark cutsie
((the kind that makes you think Cute but FREGGIN scarry!!!)) feel to it, nothing like hc anime.........

I can deal with medabots too, because there's actualy a story in there. Also, Medabi(or whatever, the yellow dude) has some good lines and isn't acted to badly. The character design and stuff is a bit lacking though.
Invader Zim does rule though. Or should I say did... It was cancelled. Those bastards. I oughta hunt them down and dance some kind of dance of there crotches. Anyone see the halloween episode? That was sheer brilliance. With the alternate dimension. Class.

Yeah, one thing I'll say about the cheap anime they show here. No matter how bad the animation, the backgrounds are always great. There's usually an amazing amount of detail in them.

And I'll agree, the new transformers is kinda hard to watch. It's transfer to anime didn't work. There is some of the original there but the put all the annoying aspects of kids anime in it. I mean idiot, bumbling deceptacons? come on, that'd never happen. Deceptacons were evil and/or psychotic never bumbling.

I haven't seen Invader Zim. But as far as psycho cartoons are concerned I always have to compare them to the one the only the greatest Ren & Stimpy. Along with the Simpsons, easily the best animated show to come out of the US in the 90s if not ever.

The new Transformer RID show was absolute trash, it feels more american then the original despite being produced for the Japanese market originally. Those retarded bumbling decepticons are just one example of this fact.

All the characters personalitys are crap and the designs are pretty lame too.

It seems to have been cancelled by Fox after what, 1 week was it. Good riddance.

At least Transformers Takara is getting released later this year, might actually pick the DVDs up. The dub is a total mess so there's no chance of it showing up on any TV channel.

Why, and how the hell did you see Sailor Moon in 5 languages???
Most anime fans seem to say the show was shite even in Japanese so I don't see a point in watching it anyway.

Transformers has been classed as anime for quite a while now.
The production of the show was still continued despite being cancelled from TV in the US. Most of the series regarded as the best came after the US shown series.

I've only really seen the openings and some small clips of Zone, MasterForce etc., but they look pretty cool.

All the Jap. Transformers series have way better songs too.

What about the Transformers the movie sound track? Pretty damn cool. 80s rock! kick ***! That song Instruments of Destruction by some guys called NRG is a great song. It's in the scene where the Deceptacons raid the autobot ship, killing Ironhide, Ratchet......Brawn..................I'm sorry I....can't....go on. I believe there's someting in my eye.

I feckin love that movie, bought the DVD a few weeks ago.
The whole ST is pretty decent, that track "Dare to be Stupid" by Weird Al Yankovic or whatever his name was is cool. I downloaded the video of that song somewhere, it's great.

And who can forget "the touch", damn classic.

oops sorry Shelly I never answered your question about whether to go to DL or Ballyfermot.

Well I really don't know anything about ballyfermot so I can't really comment on that.
But I do know about DL.
    It's a great course.
You'll have a lot of fun there and you'll enjoy it.
And I sure as hell learned an awful lot about animation there.

One thing I gotta say though. And it probably goes for Bally fermot too.
It's a heck of a lot or work. I never worked so hard in my life. It'll seem like you're working more than anyother class. And that maybe true cos Animation students clock more studio time than any others. Well that's what I noticed. After christmas you'll be staying til 9pm an awful lot and probably almost every night in the last few months.
It's probably something similar in Ballyfermot. But I don't really know, I can only recommend DL. It's a cool college and there's a real art college, easy going atmosphere there.
There's someone in my class that did 2 years in Ballyfermot, someone like that would be able to give you a better recommendation. But it seems that DL is more creativity and artisticly aimed than Ballyfermot which seems to be more technically aimed.

Well that's what I picked up anyway. Don't quote me on it.
I'll stop now before I start repeating myself.

........ thanks M-H ........if you don't remember i spent the last year doing a comprehensive animation techniques course...... ..... my Fav part was modelmaking........ i have an ummmm **gestural** Drawing style... suitable for main animation but clean up and inbetweening and painting cells sorta get REALLY messy when i do them.......damn it i still paint with my fingures!!!!!.......

Ballyfermot is more techniqally minded......but i was offered both Classical and CG animation .....i accepted CG ......apparently they have a no talking policy in there studio's.....is it the same in DL.......... i couldn't handle that......... but deep down my only problem is i'm scared i won't get offered DL........ i only got 540 for my portfolio................... <--- we're too lazy to E-mail.........

As for Sailor moon..... i started watching it when i was 12 ......... like 6-7 years ago....... so i've seen the whloe thing a number of times......... the most fu*ked up show ever......... in the oringinal there is Incest bestiality cross dressing and alot of the main characters are gay.............

as for Tuxedo mask......... well after the first series you find out his gay..... and is the most suseptable person on earth to mind control..mystical illness and plan ole' suggestion.......
and in the finally series when they kill him off Sailor moon falls for a girl......
    ............

transformers RULE!!!!!! start huming the opening and my class used to start singing along last year!!!!!!!!!

okies.......i'm dying with a splitting headache so i'm gonna shut up and run..............

Time for me to step in and make my voice heard ^_^. This is aimed at whoever started the thread, I forgot his or her name.

There are many anime which I consider must-watch, regardless of my actual taste. You see, I try to separate taste with quality. My favorite anime is Magic Knight Rayearth, but I know it is not as good as Escaflowne, or Evangelion.

My recommendations will be brief. If you like romantic comedies, things like Fruits Basket, Ranma 1/2, Marmalade Boy and almost anything by Katsura is for you.

If it's shonen adventure (something with lots of fights and martial arts and stuff) you are into, Dragon Ball IS a good start. Now, most people seem to have a distorted idea of what Dragon Ball as a whole is because they have only seen Dragon Ball Z. Specifically, the anime of DBZ is much worse than the manga, as fights are extended and it is FULL of filler episodes. Plus, many people have not seen the first Dragon Ball series, which, until the last 20 or so episodes, is totally different from Dragon Ball Z. It is more of a martial arts comedy than a super-power-battle-frenzy. And if you are a fan, Dragon Ball GT is a perfect way to end a simple but nice story (although DBZ's manga itself got dragged on too far IMO).

Another shonen which might be worth getting if you can is Saint Seiya. It is very hard, and it has not been officially translated to english, but you might find fansubs online.

Still, the best shonen adventure is DEFINITELY Rurouni Kenshin. Not only does it have amazing battles and original character designs, but it has an original and involving story. Plus, you can learn a thing or two about one of the most important periods of modern japanese history.

If you are into nice, alternative stuff, I recommend many shows, starting from Neon Genesis Evangelion, which shows an interesting exploration of human nature. Serial Experiments Lain is just experimentation of narrative at its best, and it has a distinctive Cyberpunk appeal. Finally, Revolutionnary Girl Utena is for those who love surrealism and original, if romantic, storylines.

For shojo adventure (meaning things similar in style to Sailor Moon) you might want to try Magic Knight Rayearth, or Card Captor Sakura, which are the best exponents of that genre as far as I am concerned.

For fantasy anime, the best thing around is The Vision Of Escaflowne and I dare anyone to prove me wrong. Record Of The Lodoss War is great as well.

For no-robot science fiction, Cowboy Bebop is great, although I prefer Silent Möbius. Captain Harlock and just about ANYTHING by Leiji Matsumoto is worth a look too.

And, last but not least, giant robot anime. Now, the genre itself has many different kinds of stories which I won't get much into right now. I will just say that anything of the Gundam saga is good (Gundam Wing is ok if you give it a chance, although older stuff might be best, if a bit confusing), and that stuff regarding Macross is usually brilliant as well. The Five Star Stories is the most epic manga I have ever encountered, think of it as a "Lord of the Rings with Robots along Five Worlds and many milennia" and you will start to get an idea of how epic it is.

    I hope this helped.

Initial D is the greatest anime series ever if I haven't already said that in this topic somewhere.

Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Macross Plus, Hellsing, Gasaraki, Candidate for Godess, Gundam 08th MS, Gundam 0080, Gundam 0083, Orguss 02, Project Ako, Evangelion and Gunbuster are all series well worth checkin out.

Anything Mamoru Oshii (including Avalon) is bound to be great.

Movie wise- Wings of Honneamise, Akira, Perfect Blue, Roujin Z, Lupin- Castle of Cagliostro, BlackJack, Ninja Scroll, Escaflowne, Initial D 3rd Stage, Project Ako, Cowboy Bebop movie and Goku are all cool.

I've no doubt I've left some cool stuff out.

Hell, in DL you can talk all you want, you can scream and shout. After 5 you can play music as loud as you want. I hope the first years like metal of the heavyest order. I with introduce them to the assault on the ears that is Strapping Young Lad. And of course the classics such as Slayer. The year above us, the third years now, they really hate our taste in music. It's a real easy going atmosphere there. And everyones pretty friendly.

540 in your portfolio?????????*splutter splutter cough* Jesus the highest you can get is 600. That's more than I got and I got in. The lecturers examining the portfolios told us that they were'nt that great. So it sounds like you won't have that much competition. With that much you should get in no problem. Hell you'd probably get in with that if you got zero points in your leaving.

as for Sailor Moon, well yeah it's cool that there's lesbians and all. But it's a kids show, ya never get to see the important stuff
