Back in 1980's, while I was watching anime like Daimos and Voltes V, anime usually aren't found in VHS and VCR (Betamax) tapes. I almost never buy or own an anime videotape. As much as I love Daimos, the idea of buying a video without closed captions does not interest me.

I watched Dragon Ball Z on TV in the 1990's but I don't know where I can find videotape copies of DBZ. Besides imported videotapes are fairly expensive.

When I watched Grander Musashi RV, Sakura Wars, Cooking Master Boy and Vandread 1st Stage which had aired on AXN-Asia four years ago, I liked them all. But when I learned there is a Vandread Second Stage but AXN-ASIA didn't have the plans of broadcasting it until several months later, I couldn't wait to see the 2nd Stage so I decided to go in a comic book store and found subtitled VCDs of Vandread 2nd Stage. Then I bought them and it started my anime collection.

This topic seems familiar, but oh well.

As should be quite obvious, my first anime DVD was Saber Marionette J. The Ultimate Collection I've bragged about before. (Which I now have two copies of :p) I bought it off of E-bay, after saving money for it from the job I had back then, where I got paid $50 a week. Took me awhile, but I was very happy to get it.

After that I got Arjuna Vol. 1, which I never even finished watching and can't get rid of, :p and the numerous other series that now comprise my collection.

It was about a year and a half ago that I got the collection, though I'd been introduced to anime a couple years before, when I was just starting High School.

It all started when I was a little boy in China, viewing animes like Knights of the old Zodiac, Doraemon, Dragonball, Slam dunk. That was I first discovered anime, but when it really "began" was when I bought some old VCD's of those animes back when I was 10 or so that really kicked off. Nowadays, it's always DVDs for me, and I own somewhat 30 anime DVDs.

My first anime DVD was Trigun Volume 3 i belive it was. When Vash meets Wolfwood. Since then I only bought Trigun, but a while after, i started buying stuff like Detective Conan and such. Usually the good anime is the anime that I download, and since the DVD's are from 20 to 30 USD, it's kinda hard to afford them at times. In good quantities at least....

My "first" collection was Ronin Warriors, being young and it being up too early, I taped all the episodes. This was followed closely by Sailor Moon, then Pizza Cats.

If you are talking about the first SET I've ever purchased, it's Bubblegum Crisis. The original Bubblegum Crisis + Hurricane Live OVA.

    I gotta say this one!

well, in my oponion, that is so very sad that "pokemon" "Yu-Gi-Oh", and some other dumb ones. I mean DBZ was "all right" but it just keep repeating itself and it took FOREVER just to beat a weak boss, I mean man! just get it over with it and stop talking and say "I will destroy you, blah, blah," and it also took forever for goku or someone else to the maximum so many eposodes to begin with and all for something so dumb..and you say those were the ones that got you into anime...man, that is so overaided. I can't evey understand why they put those stupid shows in t.v in the first place, I mean its kiddish stuff like for toddlers and kids that are still in elementry. I pity for those who watch their first anime I dont even think its worth called "anime" its just so Americanish. just try not to take this in the *offence* way although a lot of you might or will take this in a offensive way. I can also understand that you probably didn't have that much channels to begin with..or you are probably still too very young. I dont know but man, but in the future try to get your kids into BEYOND better anime then the ones that started you off with, then when they get older they can say "Thanks mommy and daddy for showing me kick ass anime!" :D ...I'm not trying to be a "B.I" about it I promise.... just keep it cool! :p oh yeah I forgot something else, Mine was also oh my goddess, and SAIYUKI that got me SO very into anime.

What got me into it? Probably Cowboy Bebop. I saw it first a few years and back and that basically got me into Japanese animation.

Well for me, it was watching Yu-Gi-Oh on T.V., then I picked up the graphic novel. So yeah, that started me off.
