I am pretty happy about the improvement myself. I know they were the worst team in 98. Dead last. I watched all those games. What an embarrasment. That makes this win all the sweeter. Who would have thought we could win our group? Just have to beat Poland, and South Korea, which could be hard. They are the home team, and are not bad.

Of course, 98 could be seen as the abberation. In 94 we did make it to the second round.

The improvement is really something. Most impressive.
That said, unless they've improved THAT much, the USA are still going to get trodden into the mud by england , germany or brazil.

is it just me, but do most of the European teams seem soooo much more aggressive than the asian teams?

Portugal is (was?) ranked fifth. That's not bad. There aren't many teams better than 5th (four actualy hehe)

The last USA-Germany game I watched the USA won 3-0. Of course it wasn't a world cup match, but all the german papers blasted their team afterwards and it was a huge embarassment. "Ihr seid die Flaschen der Nation" - Bild newspaper. They are beatable. Oh yeah, and Ireland tied them hehe.

We lost 1-0 to Brazil in 94.. not too bad. They are always hard to beat, but it is possible (admittedly, maybe like me winning the lottery is possible).

And England? Didn't they tie with Sweden their first game? Not too impressive. Now all they have to do is lose to Argentina and we can't possibly play them this go around, as they will almost certainly be out.

Don't get me wrong, someone will beat us; I don't really think we'll win the world cup ;) I just wouldn't gaurantee that England, Germany or even Brazil would. They are all good temas, and I won't be surprised if they do, but they aren't supermen.

No offense to the Americans around here, but I don't think they stand a chance at winning. But hey, at least they qualified ... Canada didn't even do that. It was actually quite comical listening to all the Portuguese people in Strathroy ranting about how their team lost to the Americans ... the Sportsnet Ontario guy on the radio called that the biggest upset in World Cup history ... Seriously, some people take this sport way too seriously.

Who's left, anyway? I've been cheering a bit for Ireland, when I can. Are they still around?

Veiri wasn't offside when he scored the 1st goal.

The score should have been 2-2[IMG]

    Yeeehaaar!

    Japan has beaten Russia 1-0!

Well, Oz didn't make it, so I'm going for Japan. Wouldn't put much on them winning overall, though.

I think if Japan win every game they play from now on - they will win the cup.
