Let's say that something happened and you had to choose to save one family member or five people who would you choose?

For me it would be hard. If it was my son bye five people. He is just so young. I just wouldn't know about the rest. My sister, Kelly, has a daughter another toughie. I would like to say family but ethically saving five people would be a better choice.

Aye I am still thinking about it.

I seriously don't know what i would do.It's wrong to pick the 1 but I love them so I might commit a wrong for them.Where's the kill yourelf to save them all option :)
But another qustion. If you were to save a family member instead of 5 people, how many people would it take for you to choose the greater numbered strangers?they are all loved and probably have families too remember.People love them as much as you love your family member.

It really depends on the circumstances... though overall I'd probably go with the five other people.

Unless I turned into Spider-Man and saved all of them like in the movie. Waa-pow.

Not that I don't love some of my family. But in all honesty most of my family is on the verge of death anyway. Anyone who hasn't ****ed themselves over with drugs, is too old, or are mentally unstable and suicidal.. well... doesn't really exist (aside from my little cousins but they live with drunkard, abusive father, so give it time). I guess it's a euthanasia type deal... it seems like to be part of my family, y'gotta be miserable... and I know many other people that are happy and would like to be happy that I would choose over letting my family members live and continue to be miserable.

Now come one people! I can't believe this is being thrown around here. No one person has the right to make that kind of decision. You see...

    ._.

...Family member. Most definately. Love is a powerful emotion.

Obviously we do if we're being told to make that decision... we wouldn't be told to otherwise.

Argh, thanks for making me think too hard Basher. XD Uh, I would choose my family member. I guess it would make sense to save a family member if you didn't know the five people?

tough choice.. you save your loved one the other five people those five people love ones will ask why didn't you save them or if you save the five people your loved one's parents may asked why didn't you save them

    I'm still debating on this

I for one have a pretty close family.. Soo odds are i would not chose 5 people i did not know over people i love..

But I hope that i will never have to make that choice because that would be horrible..

I am still trying to decided.

Logically if it happened in an instant I would go for a family member. If it was Brandi (another sister) she would be mad at me for saving her. If I didn't Kelly would be mad. Hard choice for me.

If I saved the five people I would feel reasponsible for their actions. Because they were supposed to die then. I would feel guilty if I didn't help either. It is a hard choice. Just be glad we are not all Doctors.

Ok people, I'd like to say something here: stop trying to find a way around it. This is an either-or decision.

Also Basher, as you are the OP, it'd help to have some real details - which family member is it? I certainly don't value them all the same (for example, one of my Uncles stole most of my Grandmothers savings. I have no reason to save him). What type of people are the five others? Doctors? Convicts?

Ultimately there's not enough info in the opening post to make a serious reply.

I think thats it...other than that.....people can go to......just kidding.....well I just wish that GREAT people can be saved and the cold hearted like myself would not...teehee!

Anyone. The purpose was to make you decided on which to save, who you want to save and who you wouldn't. Wither it was a stranger or a person you know only one choice can be saved. You know nothing of the strangers. This is like a question from a scruples book, I think.

Anything could have brought you to this situation. It could have happened at anytime. You need to decide to save a family member or five strangers. We are not super heroes so we can save only one or the other.

Like Neph said you can only decided one way. 1 person will die or five will die.

This is more of a question for you to think about how you would decide on whom to save. There are different scenarios that could go down for this. An accident or a mad man could be a few scenarios. It is up to the thinker to create what happened and then decide. It is open like this because it is a question "Would you save a family member of five people?"

It is one of those to get people to think who they are and what they would do in this situation and etc.

I am still debating. There is a lot at stake. There is the fact that I could have made a wrong choice. If I had only a second I would choice a family member. But if I have more time then I would hopefully want to think this threw. I am close to my family. It would be hard to know that I couldn’t help one. It may be hard knowing I couldn’t help five families. Is my pain worth five?

All depends on the family member and relative qualities of the five others then.

    creative.
either way, i'd rather take the risk of losing them all than definitely lose some. there's always a chance to take out the problem. either way, if the post doesnt give enough information to reply to, why exaclty are you all over with replies?

I recall saying that when someone has to choose between two goods, it's an easy decision. But choosing between two evils, it's very hard to do.

My natural instincts would lead me to save the people which i loved the most (not necessarily a family member).

I guess I'd do what God would tell me to do. i.e. if a family member was ready to die at the hand of terrorists or something, and was willing to give his/her life to save the other 5 people, i'd agree and rescue them.

But if, for example, this family member was mentally unstable, in a condition of sin (known to me of course) and about to kill him/herself, i wouldn't doubt it and save him/her. Suicide in that condition would mean hell, and I'd lose him/her forever, and I guess I couldn't afford that.

Now suppose there's a *THIRD* option: Giving my own life to save BOTH the family member and the 5 people, I guess I wouldn't hesitate. But then again, it would depend on God's will, if more family members depend on my life, it would be rather stupid to sacrifice myself.

Now back to reality, I thank God that I don't have to take such a decision.
