OK.. I bet that for the most part everyone in here's first anime they ever did see.. even if they did not realise it.. WAS

    ASTRO BOY

Admit it you watched this anime.. I know i did.. though i could never figure out the games at the end of each ep... But my friend told me that it never did work!..

So was Astro Boy your first anime or something else.. because back in the day there was few anime on tv.. Just Transformers and Robotech.. those are the only ones i can think of off hand,,,

Probably Transformers. Didn't realise what it was. Well, I was like 3, I probably couldn't have found Japan on a map back then.
Wait a minute, where is it?

Um.. Rainbow Brite (or is it spelled Bright? ) And... Gosh, there were more! Sailormoon is the first one I actually knew was Japanese, though. ^^ I thought it was Chinese or something when I first saw the kanji, but then they said "Crystal Tokyo" and I went "Oooooh." (HEY! I was only *counts on fingers* 9 or 10 years old!! Eh-heheh...)

But I know there were more. If I could just remember my Spanish project on shoujo anime! Dagh! I have..... forgotten which others I loved. *sniff SNIFF* OH WELL! :p

It was Transformers for me. Followed closely by Tekkaman Blade(aka. Teknoman). The first one that I knew had to be Japanese was DBZ.

Oh, in that case...still the Transformers, if the movie would be counted as anime. I've watched that *long* before I even realized watching any other cartoons...

If you're asking the first DISTINCT knowledge i had of watching anime...as in I knew that it was anime and saw it because it was anime...it really was Ronin Warriors. Man, that show rocked.

    Then, Sailor Moon...then SMP....

I seen part of Galaxy express 999 .. i wish i could have seen the rest of it.. its kinda cool.. in its own way..

but what realy got me into anime was My older brother and his friends always renting anime.. starting with all the Robotech.. then when i started geting my own it all started with Ninja Scroll, Akira and Ghost in the shell!

I think it was either Doraemon or Sailor Moon.
I can't really remember which anime it was since it was kinda a while ago and it was dubbed into Russian.

Back when I was in middle school, the public access channel used to show anime on Saturday mornings... Because it was so long ago,and because my Japanese knowledge at the time was effectively nil,I don't remember or recognize much of what I saw,but two in particular stood out in my mind (perhaps 'cause they were subbed). One was Kiki's Delivery Service. The other was Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (which I only caught the end of :( :( Fortunately,we showed it in anime club a couple of years ago :D :D)

Later in High school,I got to see all of Laputa and some of both Porco Rosso and Lupin III on "special" days in Japanese class. Finally,I joined anime club here at CMU,and the rest is history...

InuYasha - Otakudom is a mysterious thing...
