 Glocks are my favourite... my first ever gun was the KWA Glock 19 metal frame and it turned out to be my most reliable. For about $100 brand new... it was worth it. Yeah, I'm a glock fan anyway. WA pistols are dead nice, but trust me you really wouldn't want it in a match - just constant fear of it getting scratched up.

I myself have a 4.3 inch infinity SV but it's more of a display piece more than anything else. I'd recommend KSC/KWA... their guns are very very good and sturdy. And at reasonable prices.

    My...

    KWA Glock 19 is £78, approx $120

    KSC Beretta M9 Elite 1A is £85, approx $150

    KSC Mac 11A1 is £75, approx $135

But at my local airsoft shop, their KWAs and KSCs are strangely cheap, I'd bag on adding $20-40 per gun stated from your locals/online... but still you are looking at $200 or less for good sidearms.

wow youre lucky! id love to get a gun for around $150 but most decent pistols cost around $300 here... the really good ones are about $500 but i really dont wanna spend that much for a sidearm...and pretty much everythings imported here though so that adds to the suckiness =P

Ouch... $300!! I can get a 6-inch Infinity SV for that price. Yeah, airsoft is an expensive sport after all. But cheaper than paintball ;)

I also have a arms dealer who goes back to Hong Kong every now and then... I've saved several hundreds from him. I have asked him to get the VSR 10 G-spec this time back, if he can manage that.

Quite true... I remember in that game I played, I lent my P99 and Beretta pistols to my friends and they really didn't treat it with care... I even found by Beretta lying on around on the "respawn" floor... frame scratched, barrel filled with dust, wasn't too happy. Oh well.

Heh, like I said, I'm more of a collector, just feels satisfying having your entire arsenal laid out on your desk in front of you... mhmm.

lol see thats why i dont lend out my guns to people =P last time i did, they dropped one of my mags in the dirt and it was so dusty the entire mag was like...white....and being a black mag i wasnt happy...it took me forever to clean it out...and then there was this other new guy on my team for the day who had no idea what was going on and he came around the corner and saw me and got startled and shot me 4 times point blank and then i flew backwards into the open and then got shot in the head at point blank by a shotgun from the other team who i startled... lol i tell ya i was not happy with this guy =P

heh heh yeh its nice to have all your guns infront of you....it makes me giddy lol you should really play more though :D

I'll admit this does sound like a very... painful (and dangerous) game. Shooting people with BBs? I dunno... that doesn't seem very safe to me. I'd almost prefer the paint!

What kind of armor or protection do you wear? Obviously, goggles, right? But that couldn't be enough, I've seen BBs fire through a door before (1cm thick, plywood), what's to stop them from firing through skin?

    Especially at point-blank range. @_@

With the correct eye protection, you are perfectly fine... The amount of clothing is optional, but of course you'd want to minimise pain so a fair amount of layers will do. Not too many layers otherwise you'd sacrifice mobility. I've mentioned this already... I wear tracksuit as my first layer and my boiler suit as my second, with knee pads, elbow pads, half-finger gloves, assault vest, balaclava, goggles and SWAT helmet.

The main theme about airsoft is realism, the nearest thing one can experience without fatalities. All weapons are based on modern firearms. Rifles have the option to fire semi and full auto... some can fire bursts. Gas pistols (probably the most realistic types of guns out there) recoil like their real life counterparts and the slide cocks back per shot chambering a new bb for the next shot. Smoke grenades and frag grenades are also avaliable (basically several hundred bbs compressed in a container shaped like them typical American grenades and can be denoted a few seconds after ignition... like the real thing). Basically everything is made as near to the real life equivalent as possible.

Accuracy and power is also a strong point of airsoft. E.g. Given that a sniper rifle is upgaded and using the correct type of bb it could have the potential to hit the target at 100m (I'm just guessing, but a pretty far distance anyway, Cherrygirl probably has a better idea as she owns one).

Paintballs in fact do hurt a lot more due to their larger mass. bb's are much smaller in size... but travel quicker than paintballs. Provided you have sufficient clothing, then it really isn't too bad... I happened to be in severe pain last time because I didn't wear enough. Plus I was met by some pros who had their M4's pumped up to fire some 30 rounds a second. >_<

[Edit]I'm not sure about the "firing through door" bit, in the UK at least, all guns are chronied to fire 328fps and must be lesss than 1 Joule in power. I've had my OWN MP5 fired at my finger point blank once... build up of blood, blister and bruising followed... usually in a match you'll get a few blisters but only for a day or two. Normally the adrenaline tend to divert your attention away from the pain and the "fight or flight" phrase certainly applies in a match[/Edit]

lol yeh actually paint hurts more than the bbs! the bbs only hurt if u get shot at point blank range or if they hit skin =P
Edit:actually to be honest...sometimes you cant even feel the bbs hit you if youre properly layered

lol no no no airsoft guns are not powerful enough to shoot through a door. even if the guns have been upgraded to an insane degree the bbs are not strong enough to go through a door. theyre just little plastic bbs that hardly weigh anything at all. for protection all you really need (like shen said) is layers. for outdoor usually 2 layers will do and indoors...well it varies depending on how close quarters you are. the most important part (in my opinion) to protect is your head/face....one of my team mates didnt wear his balaclava and he chipped a tooth...being shot in the mouth is not fun x_x and of cource your eyes because although airsoft bbs arent strong enough to shoot through a door they most cerrtanly can take out an eye. if a bb hits skin it will usually only leave a welt unless your really close then it might break the skin

Most sites/oragnisers are extremely strict on eye protection... there's usually a "safety zone" on the site where you are having the match. For me it was one small room in the entire 5 storey house. This area/room is where you can take off your eye protection, everywhere else is absolutely mandatory having it on. If you are caught without goggles or whatever they do force you out of that particular game.

Also... I was told not to smile in a match for a reason. that is very unfortunate of your teammate.

For someone just starting out what would you suggest they buy? I may get into it. Where do you buy your armor at? Like a SWAT helmet and the vest?

well if youre just starting out i would reccomend you start off with an smg like an Ak47 or an mp5 because theyre simple enough to use and theyll give u a confidence boost haha ^_^ and if you have never played before id reccomend you borrow from someone before you buy incase you dont like it for some reason. as for armor and such youll need to find a tac/swat store cuz they have everything u need like tac boots, holsters, vests helets, camo etc. again only buy this stuff once you are sure you wanna play airsoft regularly cuz it costs a pretty penny. i usually go to a place called Seals Action Gear. i dont know if youd have one where you live but scope around and see what you can find :p also if youre looking to play outdoors and you dont wanna spend a fortune on army camo just go to a hunting store and buy camo there it works just as well ^_^ thats what i did lol.

sorry i only know of playing fields where i live, i dont know of any in your area so youll have to browse around online and hope for the best  also because of the legality issues revolving around airsoft, most places will not rent out airsoft guns. you have to bring your own (at least in my area anyway. i dont know about where you live)

AEG airsoft guns is really down to personal taste. In all fairness... a lot of the AEGs fire in the same way, have the same rate of fire and power. Or at least they can all be upgraded to the same potential. So, really, you need to get yourself down to a shop... or search online and check these babies out yourself. I could go on with a list of guns you should try out but that doesn't mean it's the same gun you'll like.

Like Cherry girl said, rent them on site to see if it IS your sport.

As for airsofting sites. If you live in Uk then I would tell you.

The British law has recently declared that model replicas including airsoft guns are no longer allowed to be sold in the country and all related imports are to be ceased... meaning airsoft as a sport is going to deteriote soon over here :(
