After being teased be my family, that I "watching cartoon",
and "anime is kidish", I thinking that I should maybe give up on anime.
Should I? What do you think?

That's a stupid reason to give up something you enjoy. Personally, if they cannot deal with you liking something, then it's their problem, not yours.

Of course not! Regardless of what your family thinks, what you like is what you like, and you shouldn't give in. No matter how childish they think it is, or how stupid, you like anime, right? That alone is reason enough for you to keep watching it. Who cares what anyone else thinks?

So? Your family teases you about watching anime. It really shouldn't matter what they think, and probably the easiest way to diffuse such a train of thought is to accept that yes, you do watch cartoons, and yes, they probably are kiddish in many ways, but since you like watching them it isn't really anybody else's business what you do with your time.

In my experience, showing that you recognize that a lot of people will probably think it's somewhat childish to watch anime and that you just don't care gets people to leave you alone a whole lot faster than trying to give all sorts of reasons why you should watch it. Honestly, just agree with them and tell them that you like it anyway. It's a whole lot more mature to act that way.

But don't give up something that you love just because a few people think it's silly. That's a really stupid reason. ^_^

The question should be rephrased to: can you stop watching anime?
I definetly can't, no matter what ppl think of me, because I enjoy it. It's the same as watching a disney film, or movie like Shrek...

Sit them down and make them watch Lain or a really bloody fast actioned anime. Or just watch something like that on the family tv when you know they might walk in. That'll fix em'. Of course, they may change their stance to "anime is too violent, you can't watch it".

Giving up now is exactly what they want you to do... don't lose so easily, fight for what you like (Not literally of course). Give them reason, allow them some time, show them that anime is not just your average kiddy show... I'm telling ya that you'll regret it if you renounce now.

    Define "family".

Mom and dad? Big sister? Big bad bully brother?

Maybe what your family doesn't understand is that in Japan, actors cost a lot, but animators are relatively cheap. And Anime has many genres: From childish cartoons (Pokémon) to epic war (and love) stories (Harlock Saga, Robotech, Gundam Wing), to hollywoodesque superpower stories (Dragonball Z), romance and drama (Fruits basket), Cyberpunk (Akira, Ghost in the shell), Goth (Boogiebop phantom),
and even porn . Notice that you've HEARD about it, never seen it :sweat2:.

In summary, the most popular hollywood stories are NOTHING compared to Anime. And for their information, Matrix was inspired in "Ghost in the Shell".

    End of discussion. NEXT!! :p

If they teased you for breathing would you stop doing that?

In other words, no, don't quit. Everyone else has said why.

It may be worth pointing out to your parents that anime has an influence on some of the hollywood movies that are made today. Like luvweaver said The Matrix and some other movies wouldn't have come to be without Ghost In The Shell and Akira.
I've also been asked why i like that anime (in fact one person thought it was called hentai and not anime, i had to tell him the differece between the two, and he was a little shocked that there was such a thing), i sometimes get slgged by my friends for watching it, and my parents when i sarted taking a real keen interest in it, but everyone gets used to it and now my mam goes goes around telling people i like it without any kind of smirk or laugh.

You could also say what I tell my family. "It is not a cartoon it is ANIME. A N I M E. ANIME. Its orgin comes from Japan. Not like your stupid blah blah. I am currentily in the prosess of learning about another culture. It is not my fault you are so narrow minded that you can't open up your empty head for something new and different. Is';t my fault you swim with the current instead of against it. Since you are so simple minded and a simpleton."

    Something like that.

    Or just say "Shut up."

Yes...Yes you could try that (consequenses could be umm..... not very nice)

You could try it the nice way.

Look, you shouldn't worry about this too much. In fact the other day, i was watching Love Hina, and he saw Tama-Chan flying. Later, at dinner, he tried to make fun of me for watching a "silly kids show" in wich a turtle flies, or the girls happen to appear naked all of the time. Just deal it like me and don't worry about it, all yea have to say is:"Yea, i watch anime, so what?"

Every person is entitled to their own thoughts, no matter what anyone else thinks. Besides, you only got one life, so you should live it to the fullest right?
Maybe my words were not inspiring enough, but hopefully they teach at least "somebody" something. I'm no good with these moral things, but hopefully you get what i'm saying. Anyways, good luck with your parents.

I had so many dealing with both my mom and my sister not likeing almost everything I like especially anime. They think I have some growing up to do and that I am immature sometimes. Since my mom and my sister are so much alike especially in taste, that gives me problems in selecting mostly cloths. But I got used to it so now I take more than one openion!! :p

Bottom line, don't stop something you like just because your family doesn't like it. Unless it was bad I guess..

Your words touched me (somehow) *sob*
A good trick to avoiding your kind of problems is this:
What's your favorite anime song? Well, whatever it is put it in your head, and block all outsiders out. It works most of the time, plus i get a kick out of remembering good songs.

Your parents speak blasphemous words! I say fight for thee and....oh!.....
    *ahem*
Ill answer your your question...with another question......"why?"....oh!...
    *ahem*
Ok! Lemme get to the point! You shouldn't give up on the things you like so easily. You should fight (not litterally) for what you like.

(PS: The whole multi-personality thingy...*ahem*...sory. I've been playing Star Wars a bit too much. Read my review...please! jk)
