Well, what can I say to be original? Many people have already replied.

You should stop watching anime... (Yes! That's it!)

Why? Because of scientific experiments that have proven that anime damages a few parts of the brain :p . No, really, because your family is right, everyone here is right, what you think is right.
Your family is really worried for you. Certainly there has to be a reason for it. What is it? I wonder. What is important here is you, how you are going to improve and develope yourself. Now is when you ask yourself, what you're going to do. Asking someothers is not the solution. Now, just go to the TV or the computer, play a few hours of anime and surely you'll get the correct answer.

If you're still wondering if you should stop watching anime, then I'll give you another answer for stop it:
You should, just because of wondering, you don't really like it. That's the easiest and most pacific solution with your family.
    [/ORIGINAL]

But really, you shouldn't. Anime is really great and you're going to miss many good things if you stop watching it.
Have you seen Saber Marionette J? It's really good anime. Perhaps it may change your opinion of anime?

I get teased by my cousin about anime all the time! They make fun of me for watching and loving the japanese culture. Since I know much more than they do, I like talking back comically. It's fun! ^_^

Don't give up anime. ^_^ I can never let go of anime.

YOU shouldn't give up your hearts desire just because your family thinks it's childish. Anime will take you places, and thats just their opinion forget it and move on with your life.

I don't think you should stop watching anime if you really want to watch it. My parents always make fun of how I like anime and video games. They actually pick on me. And when they're angry they make fun of me even more and even worse. Then they make fun of me when I walk around the house with my bokuto, even though I take my self-training seriously (I want to take Kendo but my mom said not until summer since my schedules kinda busy right now). I do other things that get me teased like wear wristbands, too, if I want to. I've learned not to care what most people think. Besides, I kinda hate a lot about society now anyways (so immoral...), so if it (or someone so for it they're closed to other cultures) tells me to stop something I'm probably not going to. I would say if you want to get them to stop bugging you, just act like you don't care. I would accept that they dislike anime and be like "OK I'm just gonna watch it anyways because I like it." Personally I'd leave it at something simple like that, and not get too into it. And if that doesn't work, you could show them something like Samurai X or Saiyuki, although, as was said earlier, that may make them say that anime is too violent or innappropriate or something (ok don't do that). If you want to watch it, watch it. If you want to stop, stop. It's your life to live the way you want to and your choice to make.

    Hmmmm....Do you? Just kidding....*shudder*
Anyways, i'm sure it was just figure of speech.(Right?)
You kinda took some of the advice that was given, but when somewhere in this post someone said "don't stop loving your anime", doesn't mean love it more than your parents, and don't tell them!

Hope you have a good time in this week inside your room!

What I think is that if you really really want to give up on Anime; go right on ahead. You COULD just give it a break for a while. I mean, sure, some people might think that it is a bit childish to be watching anime still; I mean...I thought that too when I found out my best friend's Dad (who's like...60 something) started watching Digimon a while back, because he thought it was cool. Plus; it was better than Pokemon. That was his thought anyway..Back to my point.

I gave up on Anime a while back too; but only to concentrate more on family and friends. My relationships with them were lagging behind; and they thought that I put too much effort into the internet and anime. Things that weren't meaningful later in life. So I took their advice, and got into school, spent more time with my family and friends.

Could it possibly that they think you spend too much time with it? I mean, sure, people also make fun of people that seem to be too "old" for anime; but hey, look at the people that create them! I mean, seriously! They're awesome to us!! Gotta remember too, that with everything, criticism comes along with it. And we gotta cope!

    I'll stop rambling on now.

Hehe, I don't live at home anymore deary, I'm 18. And I was like 14 when I said this, so bare in mind my gentle ignorance to most taboo things. Telling mom her importance was less then animes was a touch...mean, but sometimes, I stand by my claim. I really don't like my mom.

I started watching anime at 12 and im 20 now, and my parents still cannot get over the fact that i enjoy watching "childish asian cartoons". There are some things that parents will never understand, or just dont want to understand.

Maybe your parents find that you shouldnt find too much time on anime.

You should ask your parents, is it the reason due to you neligient in studies?

    My...now that, is downright spooky.

Anyway, if opinions would be based upon experience, I haven't much to tell. It is simply because, my parents have always respected my point of view and only interferes when I don't realize what I'm doing is wrong. As for your case, you could try to make them understand that what you're doing (watching Anime, for example) isn't pointless or what they might even call 'nonsense', since you feel mirth, learn a lot of things from it and find the time spent by seeing it worthy. It's better than to sulk and stare blankly up at your ceiling, right?

But if you think they have other sensible reasons--than just saying it is "childish and silly"--for making you cease watching such, you might like to try understanding their part as well.

Feh I'm in college and I still get harassed by my family about watching anime :D but I know they are only teasing me. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop watching it as long as I have my friend support team. Don't give it up for someone else, if you like it the well, too bad for them ne?

I dont talk to anyone at home about it realy, but they know i am a Japanese nut, so they just think its just all part of that. actually they hate jpop more. i dont know anyone in real life who can stand it. If Im lucky i might find some one who liked Spirited Away, and thats about the limit.

People like Japanese food though, so at least i can find people to go to a restaurant.

Ahh. True. Most people who knew me now find me odd for liking Japanese songs. And find me even more odd when I'm singing along or something. I mean, is it that bad? >>; Truthfully, I find J-Pop, J-Rock songs better than most I've heard.

¡Yo también! (Me too!:p) I never listen to American or Canadian music anymore! It's all about Japanese. (And that romanian song, "Dragostea Din Tei" :D) I don't care what anyone says about it, though. Why should I?

Besides, as long as it's not that hip-hop crap that they like, I can usually find a Japanese song they'd like, and make them eat their words. :)
