What's the worst dub ever? Granted there are some good ones - but a lot of dubs just plain messed it around.
I really hated the Fushigi Yugi and Tenchi dubbing. It scratched on my ears so much i felt like eating the tv speakers. Sailor moon was OK-ish at the start. But then they not only butchered it for daytime-tv, but they voices were all ripped apart and replaced with something out of My little pony!

We must speak out against this horrific abuse of anime!

Worst dubbinggg.. Worst dubbinggg.. I am almost completely against watching dubs. But. I will admit, Outlaw Star was very well done -- The only one I am quite fond with. Hum. . . I guess, I would have to say CCS NOT for the voices, but more of the names and such. As for voices, I agree with Shadow with Fushigi Yuugi. Tenchi had OKAY voices. But then again, I haven't watched the dubbed series of that in ages. At the time I thought they were 'good enough'. Then again, I couldn't stand watching Evangelion dubbed for more than five minutes. . .

    Sigh.

    Trigun was pretty ear-drum popping.

I'd say Cowboy Bebop was well done.

well the worst I can think of, is in Record of Lodoss Chronicles TV. There's this muscular blonde lady (I think Orson kicks her butt) anyways in the Japanese, her voice is fine, but when its dubbed, its the most horrible thing I have ever heard come out of a woman. I think a 40 year old man must have voiced her.

I couldn't stand the voices for this either, however, I thought Vash's voice suited him well. But. The others I couldn't stand either.

Sigh. They should just sell and play everything subbed. More moulah + viewers.

Omg. I -HATED- the Gokudo dubbing. But then again, I never really got into the series to realize which was better. But, the characters just sounded either way too young or way too old. Sigh. ):

Why do you guys think the dubbing in Tenchi Muyo is bad??? It's actually very good compared to the so-called professional dubbing of other anime. One such anime with bad dubbing is Sailor Moon. MAN, ARE THOSE VOICES AWFUL!!! Luna sounds like an old hag, Ami sounds like a snobby, goody-goody, Makoto sounds like a man-woman, and Usagi in S and SuperS had the absolute WORST voice I have ever heard in my entire life. She sounded like an arrogant snob who's on drugs, and I hated it when she screamed Mamoru's English name, "DARIEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!!" Horrible, horrible!! :dizzy2:

Another bad dubbing is Inu-Yasha. The voice actors just SCREAM out their lines! I don't like Kikyo's voice, or Shippo's, and I especially dislike Kagome's English voice. It's too loud, too stereotypical, and it's whiny. I really hate Kagome. Even with her Japanese voice I would still hate her. Great heroine-riiiight. :dizzy:

Anyway, other dubbing I don't like are the ones in Yu Yu Hakusho, Slayers Try, Trigun, Yugi-Oh, and many of the other children's anime.

Finally, one that's more recent, the Sonic X anime. I don't really like Amy's voice (I liked her Japanese voice in the games better, though I still don't like her), and I especially dislike Knuckles' English voice. He's suppose to sound more mature, yes, but he shouldn't sound like he's in his late 20's rather than his mid teens. His voice in the show is too deep, too gruff, even for him. I like his English voice in the games better, and I love his Japanese voice even more. I just hate it when my favorite characters have bad voices. :(

Most of all current anime dubs are horrid. Such as: Love Hina, GTO, Ranma, and Maison Ikkoku. :anger2:

CCS for sure! The voices were alright, but the cuts were bad. To cut a series from 70 eps down to thirty something just shows all the trims that were made.

i haven't seen too many bad ones. i just hate it when they re-dub. especially with new voice actors. (lupin), or when they use different voice actors for different movies/series of the one title. like patlabor. *bangs head on wall* they totally destroy the flick.

no, the worst dubbing ever is ... the french version of hokuto no ken...

well, it's hard to explain. Let's say the voices are crap (well, it's fun to hear the same voices than the one in the french version of city hunter), it's one point.

But what to say when you hear "I learned the high knife fighting" (in french "je connais la technique des hauts couteaux" which just sounds at the end like "hokuto" lol and so much more things are crap. i think you just miss the meaning of the anime when you hear such bad dubbing and translations...

Else, well another bad dubbing is the city hunter french version. Well it's not so bad actually (yes, it is, but as it's a fun anime, it's funnier when you hear it) but every bad guy is called "Roger" or "Marcel" (i can't come up with english names, but let's take your grand grand grand ancestor name, and here you go) and each time they're defeated, they say something like "he hurted me" but the way a baby (from another century) would say it "ah, il m'a fait bobo !"
we had and still have great fun with this sentence ;)

While cuts do affect a series, they aren't technically a part of the dubbing process. Most cutting/editing done to series are done after the dubbing has been completed. CCS is not the only series to have episodes cut out of it by any means.

As for my opinion on dubs (which affects which dubs I think are bad and which are good)....it's complicated. As an advocate of watching things in the original language, I find all dubbing to be less than wonderful. However, as a person interested in spreading a love of anime, I can see how dubs are useful.

Dubbing has gotten better over the past few years, but even so there have been some notable bombs on the industry. My biggest problem series currently is Saiyuki, dubbed by ADV. Character personalities need to remain intact for a dub to be of any decent quality whatsoever. Unfortunately, ADV chose to ignore this little fact when dubbing Saiyuki, and the result is...scary to say the least. Changing the character personalities changes the series to a great extent. ADV did seem to realize they'd screwed up (locking the mid-episode language/subtitle change ability is a rather large key-in), but they haven't done anything to fix it. *sigh*

As for the other dubs mentioned here as being "bad"...well, I don't have a problem with most of them (if I've seen them). In most cases, it's only one or two characters that really grate on my nerves in such a way that I can't watch the dub for long periods of time.

Bad dubs: anything dubbed in the local language of my country. Really, the voices are very high-pitched, adults can sound childy, and worse, there's usually like, 4 people doing for 10+ characters in each series, and that's not all, they do many series...

But for english dubs, there's this guy's voice I keep hearing, in robotech, akira, and I dunno how many others. A bit airy? Can get annoying, but that's not for this topic...
