    Hi everyone,
I was thinking of screening some anime in Trinity College with the help of the scifi society.
We could book a lecture theatre that has a projection screen the size of a small cinema, so we could play DVDs from a laptop or else convert things so they fit on a cdrom so that we can use the cdrom drive of the computer there.

You dont have to be a student to go to this, and it'll probably cost one Euro per person (maybe even less).
If there's enough interest maybe we could show different things each week....

Anyway I was thinking of showing some episodes of Full Metal Panic (or maybe something else) sometime this wednesday the 17th? of april.

So what does everyone think? Would anyone be interested in going to this?

    Pity you cant come, Mordeth...
I guess that alot of people that post here dont live in dublin :(

    Still it should be fun.

I'm not too sure what anime I should show... Akira is the one anime that everyone has seen. Same thing with Ghost in the Shell. Altough if people want to watch it, I guess we could play it too...

Anyway, if all goes well, I'll see you there, Ariala

Ninja scroll is good,, or you could think about setting up an "anime club" or something. and show a few episodes from different series each night.
it might be the only way some people would get to see shows like evangelion, or love hina, or other great anime's

Try and show Jin Roh if you can, it kicks *** and it'll never get an official release here.

Well, if it's DVDs, I can offer you the Evangelion movie. Eheh, I have the whole series on tape-- excluding the first two episodes, funnily enough.

I dont know if it's a good idea to watch the Eva movie before watching the other episodes?
I've only watched episodes 1 and 2, and it looks like a great series... :)

I dont have VHS at home tho :(
I'm still thinking of buying it all on DVD.

Mordeth: I also have Ninja Scroll, but I havent watched that yet... Maybe we should show it on wednesday? hmmm...

    Have you watched it, Ariala?

Lol, I guess it wouldn't be so good watching the movie first, esspeacially with Eva... But it is a great series, pity you don't have VHS.

I haven't yet seen Ninja Scroll, so that'll be ok for me.

I've just been told that Ninja scroll contains alot of sex scenes and things like that, so maybe it's not too suitable for showing in college... Is this true?

hrm.. it is a bit "adult" alright, there's a bit of rape and stuff like that in it. so no, it prob ain't suitable, specially if there's going to be u-18's there.

Are there any other options then? I suppose you could always rent some anime on DVD-- I've only seen Akira and Ghost in the Shell before.

The best thing would be if there was someway to get a video recorder somehow. Anime is so much more available on tapes.

The EVA movie DVD you have is the crappy bootleg so definitely don't show it. The subs are badly timed and the translation is shite at best.

    Pure action film, zero story.
Show it to your non anime fan friends, they always like it.

Show a Mamoru Oshii film, he rules.

Or else I'll show a few episodes of some series...
I'm not sure how non-anime people will react to subtitles

    No, no, no, no, NO!
Subs or nothing. If they don't like they can leave you alone.
Films are better, I think, untill you esablish some regulars who could be there for a series.

That "only subs" attitude is stupid.
Nearly all dubs these days are very accurate to the original scripts, and are often better for a western audience.

Many anime have jokes/references which western viewers just will not even notice, translators these days insert a joke/reference that would be the equivalent. Works very well.

The voice actors are becoming better all the time for western anime. For example, the actors in Cowboy Bebop are far better then their Japanese counterparts.

Most people don't mind subs, I think(most IFC films are subbed), especially people who would go to this. Subs are how the series' were orriginally made, so I think that's how they should be. I'm not ordering anyone to show only subs, it's just my oppinon.
