Anime being an anime fan

I don't know, but I find it kind of common among anime fans. Unless you're in a community of fans such as this board or a club, don't you find out that an anime fan in the real world is usually...lonely? I was discussing with some anime fans, and if anime isn't too popular in the area, then one bounds to be alone.

Well anime is a sub-pop culture, either never seen it before, think it's childish because its animation, or never heard of it before, so it's to be expected that fans of it is usally lonely in some areas. As for me, I know only a couple of friends who likes animes, and many people who just thinks all anime is hentai, but I'm babbling here.

And Deathscythe, I once made a thread call 'who reads here?' you seem to be one of those people who don't read.

 

Where I used to live, in Michigan, almost everyone never heard of it, down her in Florida, it seems like everyone at least knows about it.

 

oddly enough, all my friends like one anime/manga or another, be it dbz or whatnot, but we all do. its really, really weird. we have am anime club, and its alright and all, but...the club leader is a little weird. she wont let us watch what we want. its poopy. *pouts* but thats ok. otherwise, i know you're feeling.

but when i say "anime", i get blank looks. then i say "hentai" and everyones like "oh yeah. yup. i know that. yeah". (joking)
but seriously, no one know the finer animes around here (austarlia) all they know is "pokemon" and "dbz" and all cartoons with billons of dollars worth of products to match. u know? they dont know evengelion or smj. u know?

 

Hmm in Visalia... anime didnt exist... thought sailor moon and db were new and improved american cartoons. get in florida.. and never dreamed of seeing such qualiaty anime
But was alone.. me and the sisters... people looked at us like we were nutts and regular toon haters .

 

yeah......I'm sort of an outcast. Well, I mean, I have friends, but I sort of stand apart from them. They've all accepted the fact that I love anime, but I don't talk to them about it because it reminds them how weird I am. erm...among other things lol. I'm a grade A retard anyway. No one here(where I live) even knows what hentai is, lol. But really, I always get the feeling that I'm different, when I'm in a crowd. What I love about this place, and other places that have people who know what anime is, is that they understand my sense of humor, they know what I'm talking about when I say " subs are better than dubs" and "that is so kawaii!! yatta!!" etc...etc...Anyway. Anime isn't just cartoons, they have so many things in them ...you actually LEARN stuff. I know that if I hadn't been interested in anime, I'd be a totally different person. So, either way, even though i'm an oddball. I'm freakin glad I'm an oddball. ^^

 

there is this girl in my class, and she is a full on loner. she is half asian and thinks she is jap (the asian in her is not jap), she writes poems, and she drinks tea all the time at school. chinese tea. she has no friends and the ones she does have are diabled. but, she, is the only person in the whole school that likes anime as much as me. i am not one of the popular kids, but i have heaps of friends and stuff, but none of them knows anime. so, one day, i decided to have a chat to this girl. u know, about anime and stuff. a week later, she was writing "love" poems about me. ARRRRRR!!! for months my friends where on my back about it.
so to this very day i am scared (jk) to ever mention anime to anyone (exept u guys).

 

The majority of people where I live dont care for anime... and most call it "them china-man cartoons"!

However in my circle of friends, the majority love anime, 1 can tolerate it if it appeals to him, and only 1 really hates it.
Why?

"Oh, you know that stuff, its all porn."
"Give me an example."
".... well Sailor Moon is basically nude when she transforms, that makes it porn in my book."
"So Titanic is porn?"
"...shut up Scott."



And even though my college is world-reknowned for its animation program, it does not have an anime club, nor is it talked about much. Theres been *one* 'anime night' at the college so far.

 

The crazy ones are the most fun.

 

i wrote somewhere else on this site that next year i is gonna go to an all boy school.
and guess wat? that school has an anime club. WOO HOO!
and thank god it is all boys, then i will not be getting no more "love" poems. and god help me if i do.

hehe here all my buds call it PoRnAnImE .. "hey shyla ya going watch your PoRnAnime?? " Jebus give me a break. (other comments they say that wont be mentioned) when i show it to them.. they think its kool and got another anime buddy but just going to the book store.. theres a lot of em reading the mangas and all of them are soo friendly and just start talking to you.

 

Blood Pheonix, just out of curiosity, do you go to anime clubs in your area of Australia? The clubs are pretty well all around Australia now but I'm starting to get annoyed with our ONLY one here in Adelaide! Certain members seem to have a "greater than thou" attitude.
Anyway, the clubs can be a good way to meet other people interested in anime as long as you can stand the attitudes.

Hmm, well... Sort of. If it wasn't for this board I would be completely isolated from the anime community, and I probably wouldn't be into anime as much as I am. But through this board I've met the eirtaku, one of which is in my school. I've also found a couple of otaku that I didn't know were otaku in school. Which is kind of cool.
I'm kind of an outcast, and that's what I want to be. I'm friendly with most people in my year, but I'm fairly seperate to them too. Even among my friends I'm kind of strange(and my friends are pretty strange{and extremely evil}). A couple of my friends I lend anime to, and they like it, others just scream "HETAI" at the top of their voices, because they don't realise it's actualy called hentai. But none of them are otaku.
I'm not afraid to tell people I like anime, because I can be quite threatening.

 

Anime fans must be loners by nature. A while ago we got a bunch together and it ended in desaster.
Right now I have one friend that I'd see all the time who likes anime. 4 Others around Ireland who I see sometimes.
Most people I know don't make fun of anime and if they even mention anime porn or something like that we sit them down and make them watch Overfiend.

Does anyone ever notice that anime fans always proclaim themselves "weird" or "crazy" people? When actually they're just regular dudes(or chicks). Which just screams insecurity. It's seems to be common.
