I would chose a staff. Cause you can get some almighty power behind those things. And if you learn to use it propely then it looks so cool and styleish.

you know, techinically, "katana" isnt a style of sword just a japanese word meaning sword, like tsurugi, ken, tou. the correct term would be "nihontou" meaning japanese sword, but then again, on the american market, they will always be known as "katana"

*when telling the difference between a "katana" and a "tachi" the katana would be refered to as "buke zukuri" which is the form of mounts (koshirae, toso) used on a katana.

as for a tachi, there really isnt all that much difference in swords other than outer appearence. The tachi often times has a slightly longer blade than the katana and is carried edge down on hangers. while the handle may be curved a great deal more than the handle on a buke zukuri mounted blade. the saya or scabbard also is wrapped to prevent wear on the saya from rubbing against plated armor. there also is a ring around the the middle to end of teh scabbard to hold it together properly.

Well thank you, Mr. Miyogi. I'll be sure to remember that a Scottish bastard sword in Japan is still called a katana. :p

Anyways after some review and thought I decided to depart the ways of my previous Deadite-hunting, Ash-obsessed persona...

I'm actually quite partial to the khopesh and jambiya.

Though of course I am also a big fan of the quarterstaff, as well (easy for a very skilled staff-wielder to take out a group of very skilled swordsmen, unless specifically trained to take on a staff-wielder).

I don't think I'm fast enough to use a sword too effectively, so I'd probably opt for something like a war hammer or, if I worked out for a few months, a battle axe.
