Drunk's word of the day is one that most Otakus know, but I'm not sure if they know the real meaning. It's Chibi. It means runt or dwarf.
    chibi*
    runt; dwarf; (P)

Ok, I understand it now:) It sounds kinda funny:)

Yes, chibi means a dwarf/shrimp. Some people name their dogs Chibi in Japan. Of course, it's only for dogs not for people:)

Looks like it's another Drunk word of the day. This one's just to make people understand me more in the chat room and stuff. It's yoshi. Not that lovable scamp of a dinosaur from Super Mario though. It means okay, and is fairly common in anime. Especialy in SMJ.
    yoshi
good (in moral judgement only); all right; well; so; (P) [and]
    OK!; all right!

altho, most times yoshi will be said as yosh. this is because in some words, it's ok to drop the i sound to the sylable. like the name, oh lets's just say....yoshiki, can be said yoshki and still be right. you can hear it pretty good in the song x, version from starbox...when he lists off names...i also read it in a book i have...soemwhere...

Ya, the i is often silent in yoshi. I and U are quite commonly silent in japanese. Just thought I'd let you know.

    Dabo

I think someone asked me if dabo means aho, baka or something. Then, I said I didn't know this word, but I found it in a Japanese site today!

Dabo is a one of Kansai ben, but it is used in a limited area of Kansai. west of kobe. Osaka people don't use this. I don't use this either. So this is not so famous word and that's why I didn't know this word. Though I live in Kansai, I don't know all Kansai dialect...

Thanks for the update on 'dabo', Mikko. It was me that asked.

And DL, how can someone from such an incredibly soggy country be so obsessed with water? At least it's a rare and valuable resource over here. I'd have thought you guys would be pretty blase about it.

I'll bust out one myself...actually two.

"Itadakimasu" is said before the meal, literally meaning "I will receive". Although, in context, it's more like, "I'm going to eat."

"Gochisou sama deshita" is said after, meaning "It was a good meal."

"Oyaji" is a really err...crude form of saying "father". Really, you could say it to elderly men to mean "ol' man" or "pops". I got into a habit of saying this to a few people...it's all good though, they look at me strange is all.

Izzy goes for the kill again!

    "Ureshii" is happy.

    Lesse...

    "Izzy wa ureshii."

    or

    "Sora-chan wa ureshii desu ne?"

    or

    "Boku wa ureshii ja nai!"

    Eh, whateverness.

Hell, why not have another word for today.
This word is very useful because it means so damn many things. The word is Agaru.
    agaru
(v5r) to enter; to go up; to rise; to climb up; to advance; to appreciate; to be promoted; to improve; to call on; to be offered; to accrue; to be finished; to come to (expenses); to go bankrupt; to begin spinning (cocoons); to be caught; to get ruffled; to eat; to drink; to die; to weaken (as a battery); to let up (rain); (P)

    ......yes...

Two kansai ben phrase for today!

    1.Shoumonai: Boring
    ex :kono anime shoumonai(wa/na)
    This anime is boring.

2.Nametonnoka, ware!(phrase to threaten someone.):Don't think you can make a fool of me!
The last word 'ware' means 'you' in a very impolite way.

    Love and peace!

One of the things I love about Japanese is that there are so many different ways of saying 'you' and none of them are guaranteed polite! They're all either too casual for some situations or fighting words in any situation.

Speaking of being rude... Mikko, this isn't a Kansai-ben question because the characters I hear using it the most are from Inuyasha, but I hope you can help me. What's with the sentence ending 'yagare' (or 'yagaru' I think, pardon me but I have some vocabulary but no grammar!) that Inuyasha and Kouga and the like use when they're angry. I assume it's meant to be rude but what does it actually mean?
