My first anime was Sailor Moon. I was obsessed with it for a little while but then
I realized that it was sorta stupid and it got boring.

I grew up watching those kids cartoons... things like "Twelve Months" (excellent one!), "The Magic Pony" (okay I think that was Czech if I remember how it was animated), and "Little Women" (yes the Japanese did do a version of this!) and of course "Unico" which I totally loved (despite the fact that I remember it being kinda scary?). So if you want to count these as anime, then I guess they would be my first forays into the genre.

However, as an adult who 'came out' as an Otaku when I was 20, my first anime was "Project A-ko" followed closely by "Shoujo Kakumei Utena".

Back when I was in middle school, the local Public Access channel would show anime on Saturday mornings. I don't remember exactly the first anime series I saw on there, but they would show anime movies. I saw Kiki's Delivery Service that way,but what really got me started on anime was seeing Miyazaki's "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" ("Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa") on that Public Access channel.

    InuYasha - ahh memories...

Ohh! Nausicaa is a beautiful film! Sadly, I can't seem to find it anywhere now save for a dubbed American release called "Warriors of the Wind" >

I know what you mean. I also thoroughly enjoyed Laputa ("Tenkuu no Shiro Laputa") and Mononoke Hime when I saw them (HS Japanese class and anime club, respectively).

InuYasha - Miyazaki is so not respected here!

I have vague memories of staying up late as a kid and seeing Vampire Hunter D at like 1am, tho I'm not sure when that was. So I guess it was also Transformers for me.

That's strange. You'd think after all the press Mononoke got in the US that his earlier stuff would be more respected...huh.

For my first anime, it was either Doraemon, Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, or Totoro

as a child i watched transformers, speed racer, voltron, candy:glazed: , saint seiya, but to me, that stuff was just cartoons, so i would say that my first anime is Saber Marionette J, i just love SMJ, J again is okay, J to X is a disgrace, R is :dizzy2:
