I LOVE martial arts anime. I really cannot stand superhero or mecha stuff at all. I would really like to see Hello Kitty. It's probably really silly, but Hello Kitty is so cute. I have not seen any comedy, steam punk or romance anime but I think I would like them as well. Regardless, I'll always love those martial arts shows.

Hard decision, as most of my favorite titles fit into multiple categories. But they do deviate, and it usually comes down to one genre that first gets me into a show.

Namely comedy. Whether stupid-funny, ridiculous, clever, or subtle, comedic arts hit me the hardest when it comes to entertainment.

The first Anime that ever drew me in was either Saber Marionette J or Tenchi Muyo (in Tokyo, specifically, for that's what I saw) - can't remember which I saw first. I'd seen the stuff aired on standard television (Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Digimon, etc) and whatever That guy would throw at me now and again from Ser's classic collection, but wasn't too fond of what I saw - namely mecha, monster trainers, and girl squads. It took a joke of full extreme stupidity or characters with very exaggerated faces and voices to truly wake up the anime fan in me. Face faults, romantic triangles, sheer unbelievability and/or stupidity - these are usually common anime comedy traits that (come to think of it) get me into a series in the first place.

If it gets a chuckle from me inside or out, chances are I enjoy it.

The pure drama devoid of any humor tends to put me to sleep. Even a little subtle joke now and then can perk up some stages of drama.

On my low end, however are:

Mecha - dunno, just never liked how impersonal the actual hi-tech seems...I prefer martial arts style fighting, or even handguns over encased war machines.

Sports - I'm a devout "rather play than watch" sports believer. I don't follow any professional sports games, and I don't see Sports anime appealing, either.

I voted for Martial Arts since I'm a huge Rurouni Kenshin fan ^_^x Though, I would put RK into the category of historical fiction rather than martial arts. That category seems to be more like anime's such as Dragonball Z, Yu Yu(at points), and Ranma.

I also really like comedy anime's like Love Hina and Excel Saga... it's hard to decide

I choose sentai b/c well if ya think about it Cowboy Bebop revolves around a team and Fushigi Yuugi and there my favorite so far. I mean anime that involves teams are fun. The frist anime I ever liked was Sailor Moon so ya I voted for this. I also like romance and comedy.

Really not a valid choice of genre preference, then, is it? Many of the examples given fall into several of the listed categories.

->Rurouni Kenshin is clearly a mix of Drama, Martial Arts, and Romance with just a hint of Comedy.

->Dragonball Z is Drama and Martial Arts, with Fantasy and Sentai elements

->Ranma is a clearcut Martial Arts/Comedy with a touch of romance.

The best way to decide your genre preference is to look at your top favorites, and see what they have in common.

Just basing on the above, (that is RK/DBZ/Ranma) if those three were your favorites, it seems you do have an interest in Martial Arts.

ANN labels Detective Conan as "Adventure/Comedy/Mystery", although I've seen mention of it in the same sentence as "Children's Anime" before.... ;)

But, never seen it, so you'd be able to judge what it fits yourself.

Drama for me. I love it when the storyline develops over several eps and gives a view on the thoughts and feelings of the characters.

'Tho "pure" drama is a no-no, a good amount of action is needed to prevent me from falling asleep :D. And if there's something supernatural involved in the anime, well, I'll definately fall for it.

My first choice would be Mecha--I really enjoy any anime with robots in them.

Then my second choice would be Sentai===mainly because of Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman) and Voltron

This is hard to choose. I like romance, drama, fantasy, magical girl, comedy, and martial art. Guess if I have to pick, then I'll go with fantasy!

Some of the more perverted of us might like to vote for that!
