Debate Why do we fight??

In addition to what Dredz said, I'd like to say that Italy was the country that really "started" WWII by invading Albania and Ethiopia. When this move was made, Japan then attacked and occupied Manchuria, then Germany stepped in and made the war big. True, Hitler would have probably done this anyway, but he wasn't the one to instigate the conflict.

 

Still.....I'm just trying to make a point.having war over teritory and power is stupid.its up there with terroism and racism.I find that I have gotten board of the news ever since 9/11.I also stopped because i'm tired of hereing murders and shooting and all that crap.

 

Humans aren't the only creatures who fingt over territory. Wolves, bobcats, and even birds of prey do so as well. Now, as for the media, well, it's the media. It's not going to show something happy; that would destroy ratings.

 

Animals are different.They probably wouldn't be fighting over territory if we weren't over populating the world.

 

umm...okay. So dinosaurs and other animals from before humans were around did'nt fight over territory...? All animals fight over territory and unless you totally seperate them from one another they always will. Look at the plains of Africa. There are very few humans out there and yet Lions and other carnivores still fight over food and water. Humans being overpopulated has nothing do to with it.

poeple fight for 2 reasons: they want something they have to fight to get, or they like to fight.
both of those can be either good or bad, in the right circumstances. i have nothing against dueling, as long as both combatants agree. i do have something against killing someone who doesnt agree to a fight, unless it is for something more important than 1 life.(such as many lives)

 

we were given a free will which in turn gives us choices and some people are given different coices depending on what their situations are which then gives us different perspectives on the same things which makes us believe that others perspectives are obscured which in turn makes us believe that our way is the right way which then makes us want to prove that our way is the right way which in turn makes us want to fight...sorry about the run-on sentence....

Although the reasons behind human violence vary considerably, I think it's fair to say that we fight according to our emotions. We hate, we get jealous, we love and we fear. And so we fight.

 

hmmm... very interesting point there. i think that all the street fights happen for this reason, people fight each other just out of boredom. However something like war is totally different. I still cannot fully understand why people choose to go to war instead fo cooperating with each other to resolve the conflict peasefully.
have anyone noticed that fighting is mainly a men's thing(too much testosterone)? Women tend to argue verbally and never actually fight physically. i think if there were more women in the government the world would be more peaceful....

Alright, first of all. Why do men fight? It makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint.

One man can make many women pregnant. One woman cannot carry dozens of babies. Women also have to take care of children. Since men are therefore more expendable, it's ok to sacrifice them. Men are also stronger and larger. A mans eyesight is also optimized to search for moving targets (source: Mens Health Magazine). As our natural war waging method is hand to hand and spear throwing, this makes us simply better, more powerful units.

Now, as far as women go, have you ever been in a nightclub? Have you ever seen the revolting amount of catfights that go on? Not one bar/club visit goes by where I didn't see at least two women trying to kill each other. Yes, there's also been fights between men, but I've honestly seen more women go at it. Once I even got caught between two of them. I was at The Guvernment in Toronto, because Marco V was DJing that night and he's one of my favorites. So there I am, at 1 AM, really feeling it, when all of a sudden I feel this brutal impact on my leg. I look down and there's this tiny girl there. She couldn't have been more than 5'3". And her opponent?

I can summarize her in one word. Juggernaught. I've been less afraid of rabid dogs, and from the look of Juggernaught, she may as well have been foaming at the mouth too.

Twiggy claws up my pants, using me as a stabalizer. I'm just standing there looking utterly confused, and Twiggy hides behind me as a shield. Juggernaught tries to lunge at me, but Twiggy, god bless her soul, suddenly lunges forward, grabs Juggernaughts hair, knees her in the stomach, and tosses her to the ground. A bouncer runs up and seperates the two, and they leave each other alone.

For ten minutes.

Then they try to do it again, and this time they really go at it. They're jostling everyone around, and I even caught an elbow to the stomach. The bouncers managed to escort them out, and from thereon I have no knowledge of what transpired.

Women have even in history been pretty nutty with war. Ever hear of the Amazons? They'd cut off a breast so they could use the bow and arrow more effectively.

Besides, just because women engage in physical combat less frequently doesn't mean they don't try to absolutely ruin the lives of people they hate. You'd just see more sabatoge, covert ops, and blackmail.

aww... poor guy! but seriously, ive seen more men fighting in nightclubs than women. men fights happen every night, women fights happen once in a while. as for the amazons, they were very unique and their kingdom didnt last for long. and as u mentioned, women have catfights(not a serious fight) but when men fight its really serious, they can even kill each other. And i agree with u that most women tend to use blackmail and stuff like that... but rarely choose to fight phusically. But ofcourse there are exceptions....

 

I think people fight for love, for the insecuritys in there life, to prove theyre stronger, above everybody else, for their country, or for the pure, insane bliss of fighting

 

Like women have never fought trying to kill each other?

Read up. Granted not all of them screwed someone over or started wars, but then neither did every male leader. Besides, how do you know a woman leader wouldn't be willing to get into a standard war? She isn't the one doing the fighting; it'd just be another tool to ruin another persons life.

 

So there are two reasons people fight: People either want to or have to.

All those who fight may or may not know what they are getting into.

Well youd never know, do u? However, almost all wars were started by men. As i mentioned before, i think that women tend to talk things over more. And seriously, i dont think that any woman would want to ruin somebodys life, unless that somebody did something horrible to her . We women dont enjoy ruining lives, so dont worry about that .
