He's not testing to see if his results are right, he's testing to make your more faithful to him. Oh my God, did you even know what the people back at the time of the flood did? Every single sin that can be commited. Everything that have. And for it was written: you may commit any sin and be forgiven but yet if you have abandoned me and denied me as your God, than the sin of which can not be forgiven. Translated from chinese bible (gotta find the chapter I saw this again and then type it up in simple chinese, sorry for the inconvinience). Then clearly it's not true, moron. yea and thats logic! and God cannot be explained by logic! I said it as an opinion while you targeted me as I was stating it as a fact. That's exactly why I said it in the biblical and referring point. I never said I knew for sure. buddy Hitler existed, while we don't even know if God does, so you can't judge him. kid, that is free will, God told him to listen but he chose not to, that is free will, he didn't agree with God while God clearly announce to him. In the ways of man it may be moral, but God sees it differently. Humans are hypocrites, moral? What moral? They can't even act out what they say, so don't be saying God is acting inmmoral. while trying to save his people so he hardened his heart? I think thats perfectly good in moral. We are talking about at the time. God chose to save them because they were suffering more than any other race at the time. *sigh* thats why it is also written in the bible the Israelites will never stop suffering in civil wars and war against others. He interfer with it to make Pharoah change his mind, but if he changed his mind, it is still Pharoah that chose and use his will to do it. If the pharoah was really really stubborn even after the plague of the eldest son he still could have refuse to give it up. Do you read kid? God performed miracles to make pharoah agree by his own free will. No matter what, if he chooses, he still is using his own free will to make the choice. I lose? buddy you haven't been doing any good as well. All you did was criticizing how God is psychotic, racist and everything sinful and thus on. Using your own opinion to judge God. Further more, you don't even know if he exists? You see the point of this thread is not to criticize but to see if you believe in the existence of God. I must admit I also had try to prove that God exists, and also defend against his criticizm. But I don't think from your own understanding you are able to say if God is evil and such. speaking of which, God plays favourite? Yea if he was racist I don't think he would pick the Israelites, the most suffered civilization at the time. If he was racist he would look down on them and abandon them.
If God wants me to be faithful to him, all he has to do is show himself. What is he afraid of? So? God gave them that ability, and if they do something that displeases him, then thats his problem, because he wanted it that way. And how does that make it moral anyway? Just like the Bible. Who says so? Then stop arguing your point. That's like saying I can't call a fictional character, such as, oh, lets say The Emperor from Star Wars, evil, because he doesn't exist. God, as portrayed in the literally interpreted Bible, is evil. Do you even know what the phrase "hardened his heart" means? That means that God -made- the Pharaoh say no. Uhhh... You don't find it hypocritical that God kills, then tells people NOT to kill, then kills AGAIN, and then orders people to kill as he pleases in the Old Testament? You see having a racist slant and using magical powers to inflict pain and suffering needlessly as moral? Sick. Then why did God keep having them exterminate other races over and over? Why does God declare them as "his" 'special' people? How can you not see the racism inherent in this?! GOD MADE PHARAOH SAY NO. "GOD HARDENED PHARAOHS HEART." What?! "God hardened Pharaohs heart" would indicate that God MADE the Pharaoh say no. Well given that we are currently debating the morality of Biblical God... Not to mention things straight out of the Bible, which serve to reinforce my point. Are you just rock stupid or something?! http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=racism Tell me what you see. 1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others. 2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race. I rest my case. Having a favored people, be they a political superpower or not is indeed racism, and if you can't accept that, then you're a lost cause.
I just kinda like how SOMEONE is here, saying that it's not even known if God exists or not but she's damn-near using tooth-and-nail (and doing a ****ty job of it) trying to defend his sadistic ***. "Oh my God, did you even know what the people back at the time of the flood did? Every single sin that can be commited. Everything that have. And for it was written: you may commit any sin and be forgiven but yet if you have abandoned me and denied me as your God, than the sin of which can not be forgiven. Translated from chinese bible (gotta find the chapter I saw this again and then type it up in simple chinese, sorry for the inconvinience)." Hell, nowadays I think things are worse. I don't know about you but I don't hear anything about religious figures sexually molesting young boys or people being sodimized with 2 x 4s. Oh yeah... by the way... it is written that "There is one ring to rule them all". OH MY GOD IF I FIND THE RING I WILL BE TEH WIN! W00T! "Yea if he was racist I don't think he would pick the Israelites, the most suffered civilization at the time. If he was racist he would look down on them and abandon them." Y'know, it IS possible to be racist on the basic view of a specific race to begin with IE Blacks being racist against whites... not sure if they taught you that in Sunday School or not. "buddy Hitler existed, while we don't even know if God does, so you can't judge him." But how do we know he existed for sure? For all we know the whole thing could be a hoax and Hitler wasn't even the enemy but rather some figure that was put up and made up as an imaginary villain so we had someone to blame and everyone's just playing along. I know, I know, it's a long shot... but anyways, there's just my point... you don't even KNOW if he exists, yet you're defending him. Utterly hilarious. "Because folks, I gotta tell you, when it comes to bull****, truly, major league bull****, you have to stand back in awe, in awe, of the all-time heavy-weight champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion, organized religion. It's no contest. Religion easily, easily has the best bull**** story of all time. Think about it. Religion has convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky, who watches every thing you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn't want you to do and if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place... of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever and suffer and burn and scream until the end of time... but he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and he needs money." I think that sums it up pretty well.
First off, It is impossible for the "whole" world to have chose to abandon god. There mustve been some people who at least had some faith left. Secondly, he said he would not destroy all of humanity again with a flood ever? Why do I have a bad feeling about this? LOL What does that prove? Simple, It proves whether he is omniponent or not. How do we know he couldnt? Well, we dont but if he does than he is not omnipotent. Is logic too much for a god now? I have read that there are different ways to gain knowledge. And one of them happens to be by commiting something. For instance, In order to have known about sinning, you have to sin. So that we can express love? If we chose not then we will suffer eternal damnation, wow! thats love for you there. I dont know much of about the bible, but i do know this. Greediness is a natural feeling. It is proven (i hope) that humans are never satisfied with something good for them.
Whoa, guys maybe we should all let go of each others throats, please? :sweat2: I may be new here but i'm sure this forum was set up to see what people's opinions about god were, not their opinions about each other! take a step back and give each other a bit of room, coz we are all completely different, and entitiled to our own opinions whatever they are. so do you think god's a man or a woman? i'm not really sure, coz everyone sees pics of a big bearded guy, but maybe that's not true? what do you think?
That bearded guy would be jesus. God is usually illustrated as a hand coming down with light illuminating from it. And by looking at the illustration of the hand it looks like a guy. But I bet people are gonna say neither "that hes a spiritual energy and has no gender." or something like that. Ive heard it too many times before. I dont think we are at our throats....just having an arugument.
Hm, well, I've always been told that God is a man because He created Adam in His image. Since Adam was a man, God is a man. Also, God is usually referred to as father or another masculine title. Then again, that could be due to the translation, not the actual text. I also know someone who insists that God is a hermaphrodite. I'm not exactly sure how he came up with this idea, but I believe he might of been influenced by the story of Adam's first wife, Lilith. Anyway, I guess it depends on your own view of God and religion. (Personally, I think he is a guy, but, like I said, that's mostly due to my upbringing.)
This is one of the reasons why I think this religion is made up. I dont know how to explain it well but bear with me. First off, back in the days everything used to be protrayed as a male figure. They used to think that man was most powerful out of the two genders. And notice how most people protray god as a man. And notice how it was EVE that ate and the fruit and not adam. This is my theory...I can see that I still need alot of work on it.
And notice how in earlier religions, it was always the female diety who was the higher power/creator? ;P
I seriously think that I need to pay attention in my history classes. But wasnt that a little bit longer than what I was referring to?
mmmhhh kinda new so don't spew... anyway, i reckon religion is perhaps the worst thing this planet has ever seen. the following cauld be why... 1. There have been more human deaths due to religious beliefs than any other cause in the history of this planet. 2. There are some religions which promote the- "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth". motto, which (as seen in the middle east) is not exactly helping reduce human casualties. eh? so how are you folks? (i'm new...) ~mlowen
I agree, Would god tolerate a relgious feud? I mean you still did kill somebody, so you would still go to hell. But hey, what if you killed somebody and like apologized and prayed so hard. Would he forgive you still? I was thinking about it.
I totally believe in God. I mean think about it......... there can't be a master design without a master designer. I mean, the Big Bang theory just doesn't make sense. So all of a sudden there was a huge bang and then there was the world?? (Life supposedly came billions of years later). Sorry, I just don't see it. And if we evolved from monkeys, then why are there still monkeys? xxx For those who think God is lazy and has left us I see your point. The world has gone down the tube, but we shouldn't give up hope. If there is one thing I have learned is that God works in mysterious ways. God is our rock and he will never leave. Never. After seeing The Passion and seeing Jesus being scourged and what he went through, I can be absolutely positively certain that God hasn't left us. He's just waiting until the time is right. :catgirl:
Evolution has much in common with a design process. It generates trial-and-error modifications of existing forms and discards the inferior versions. Given your misrepresentation of it, of course you don't see it, because you don't understand it. Go read some textbooks. Humans and other apes are descended from a common ancestor whose population split to become two (and more) lineages. The question is rather like asking, "If many Americans and Australians are descended from Europeans, why are there still Europeans around?" You've read the Old Testament, right? How can you consider God moral or your rock if you actually recognize that he is responsible for the death of millions and millions? Indeed, let us propose a hypothetical. Phase 1) Assume God simply IS. He has no start, no childhood, no parents. Since he has no parents to teach him right or wrong and no childhood to learn through, his understanding of morals (which are indeed seperate from God, as evidenced in the Bible itself) is not exactly balanced. Phase 2) God creates man and attempts to exert control over his creation, yet time and again, God witnesses man turning away from him. He does not understand why his children are doing so, especially since he has never experienced childhood, complete with a father, himself. Phase 3) After several attempts to make mankind love him by force and still failing to understand why they continue to turn from him, he manifests himself as Jesus to live a human life so he may attempt to understand why they do the things they do. Phase 4) But that wasn't enough; he also had to know the depths of evil. He had to find out first-hand about the pain of torture so that he could comprehend suffering, which an unfeeling God had mercilessly inflicted upon countless previous generations. And on the cross, he finally understood fear of death, which was yet another concept that would have been utterly alien to an immortal God. It would have been the ultimate test, and the ultimate learning experience. And when Jesus cried out on the cross that God had "forsaken" him, he would have been hoping that perhaps he wouldn't have to see this through to its bitter end. But that wasn't to be the case. He had to understand mortality and death, so he could understand first-hand what God had inflicted upon humanity. And when he finally died, he became a proxy agent for God's repentance, in atonement not for humanity's sins against God, but for God's sins against humanity. If you interpret his story this way, then it becomes obvious that we didn't have to learn morality from God; God had to learn morality from us! What do you say to that?
I'd say that's a really nice way of explaining it. I have nothing really to say against this. (I'm still athiest, but that doesn't mean I can't say that's a great explanation)
you all have no idea how happy this thread has made me I can't believe someone mentioned the passion, lol someone call eric cartman
Okay... so, let me get this straight... The Big Bang Theory doesn't make sense... HOWEVER An "all knowing, all seeing, omnipotent person" does? An invisible man who lives in the sky and watches everything we do, every minute of every day? A man that when we break one of his ten imaginary rules will send us to a place of burning and fire and torture and smoke and anguish for us to live in for the rest of time, but still claims to love us... you believe in THIS, instead of a scientific explanation? I have officially lost any ounce of respect I still held for humanity. I hope you're happy. And after seeing Jesus scourged and seeing what he endured, y'know what I think? That it's pretty damned funny. ;P Though not nearly as good as what we'll see in the sequel, "The Passion 2: Zombie Jesus". If there is one thing I've learned it's that, if there is a God, he is nothing more than a sick, twisted, stark-raving, mad, insane, sadistic, uncaring, uncompassionate and all around sick mother****er. But then again, that's just my opinion. Personally if I were to give praise to anyone, it would definitely have to be Judas Iscariot. That man gains all of my admiration.
