I think that DBZ is overrated because that is what your average Joe Bloggs (programing joke) likes of when he here's anime. There's one kid in my school who bought all of DBz and thinks that is the "crem de le crem" while I like it I don't think it deserves all the praise it gets like from America in general and Toonami how they say The Best Action Show Ever while I think something that has a less repetitive ploteven one of my least favorit anime "X" is better cause if you miss parts of it you would lose the plot

    additon-
For anyone who read "Anime Essinals" a good book about anime when they list the american generations the generaion that a current 13 would be in is the Dragon Ball Z generation. While someone is is 37 (like my father) would be in the Battle of the Planets/Star Blazers generation

I am going with Chi, DBZ is over rated and i personally wish i could sue toonami for putting it on. (with the way the justice system is today... i bet i'd win)

    I hate it because:

    1) Zero storyline, zip, none
    2) All they do is fight, nothing else
    3) For half the episode, they stare at each other, occasionally brething or talking to each other
    4) Cant stand the fact that they are constapated when the power up
    5) They make about 4 pics for a fight scene and use it over and over and over
    6) The constant reusage of scenes in and out of fights makes me want to kill

Personally, i think this is an insult to anime. And i cant stand this at all i hate it with a passion.

But... to Chi... i must protect the good stuff...

First off, it is "X/1999" they messed up its name when it became series and movie form. And second, have you read the manga? Dont judge X/1999 until you have read the manga. And how can you not like it???

Sry, I love X/1999 so i must protect it... but in all DBZ or whatever variation of it like DBX, or DBZGT, or DB, or whatever... they're all bad.

I'd have to say Sailor Moon. Before all the fans flog me for bringing up the horrible, horrible, horrible (I can't stress this enough) translation, it was one of the first anime to really make it big as far as US mainstream is concerned. It has been overplayed more than anything, and whenever I mention anime to a nonbeliever, they immediately mention either Sailor Moon or some kind of porn. Moreover, Sailor Moon has, I feel, a very limited audience, and yet it is everywhere. Perhaps not so much as Dragonball Z, but at least DBZ started out entertaining.
Let the flogging begin. In my experience, when someone says anything other than DBZ sucks, the esteemed members of this community will have them beaten. Bring it.

Actually Dragon Ball is good. That one is a classic. The is a bit repetitive but as much as dragon ball z which uses this formula every time
    -Ememy Appears
    -Battle
-Goku (or whoever is battling) loses
-Traning to become strong/ learn Super Ultra Mega Attack
    -Power-up by screaming
    -Taunt
    -Battle Again
-Try to raise power with out enemy knowing
    -Final Battle
    -Uses new Super Ultra Attack
    -5 eps of Victory
    -repeat

    Sorry I just don't like X/1999

I personally think Trigun is highly overrated. I've seen it, and I honestly don't think it's that great. It's pretty dippy. I don't know, but that's just my opinion.

I agree with you guys about DBZ being overrated. Many of the episodes are dull, and it takes up a huge percentage of anime DVDs in stores. That part really irritates me.

I also think that the Gundam series are highly overrated, especially G Gundam (though I thought Gundam Wing was okay). I don't know what's the big deal with giant robots. If you're not controlling them (like you would in a game), they are just boring.

There's also Yu Yu Hakusho (that show is so stupid to me), and there's Rurouni Kenshin. I just can't stand it. Kenshin an annoying schizophrenic (I think I spelled that right
 ), and Kaoru a poor excuse for a female lead. I HATE her!!

That's all I can think of. If you're a fan of any of these shows, please don't flame me. We all have our own thoughts.

The OVA's are just senseless killing with a laughable excuse for a plot. People only watch them because they want to see a lot of blood and the like.

As much as I love Yu-Gi-Oh, yes it is terribly over rated :p (and the show wasn't always about cards, the card 'episode' in the manga was meant to be a one time shot but it got such a great response form the fans, and ya gotta give the fans what they want. ;) I actually like the concept of cards... ^^; )

Yargh, can't think of anymore right now... >< Except Chobits. .__. *ducks from flames I am surely gonna get*

I'd have to say Yugi-Oh and Yu Yu Hakusho.
Yugi-Oh is just plain annoying. And childish. And it's just becoming another Pokemon, because it's another one of those "toy" series. A pretty much pointless storyline, and really the only reason it's there is to sell the merchandise- in this case, cards. The series isn't good at all.
Yu Yu Hakusho is just really obnoxious, but isn't quite as bad. When it comes down to it, a lot of shonen anime is bad. NO offense here, but it seems like a majority of the shonen titles (DBZ, for example, but NOT saying there's anything wrong with it) are too much fightning, and not much of anything else. I mean, what ever happened to good characters and stories?!?

Shonen Jump chose action manga because that is what they have first. and that's what was i Shonen jump in Japan and another would be sadly finishing off SandLand. Is Kenshin (the manga)any good cause that is what will replace it.

DBZ - too long, too lame.

Though it's a Manga... Akira... I thought it was pretty s**t to be honest. Ghost in the shell was much much better.

Another few i thought were terribly overrated

Rurouni Kenshin- This one is insanly boring, i cant stand it. Ninja Scroll did so much of a better job as a ninja/samurai anime.

Yu-Gi-Oh- I think who ever came up with this should be shot, i truely hate this anime. It is so retarded, there is again, zero storyline.

Yu Yu Hakusho- Terrible, again. This one is almost as bad as Yu Gi Oh, "OH NO!!! NO MORE SPIRIT ENERGY!!!" PLZZZ thats lame out the ***. And there is like a spirit everything, "Ill just pull out my spirit comb to slick back my spirit hair. O look! A spirit grasshopper!" UGG!!! LAME!!!

Outlaw Star- This was a good anime, dont get me wrong, but i still dont get what all the fuss over it is about. Another attempt in vain to make a future bounty hunter anime (CB mastered that type of anime!)

Blue Gender- Another pathetic attempt to make a futuristic anime. Tis sooo bad.

Transformers- I despise this show too... i view it as a kid anime, and thats what it is.

I disagree. If anything,Outlaw Star is underrated.I can think of many words to describe Outlaw Star, but "fuss" is not one of them. Many people, like yourself, automatically dismiss OS for being another "future bounty hunting" anime. But to be fair,it's not like they were copying or anything.Outlaw Star,Cowboy Bebop, and Trigun all came out in the same year(contrary to popular belief).Anything that came out after that can be accused of "copying" Cowboy Bebop. There are many things I found in Outlaw Star that are unique to this anime. It's a unique spin on the space bounty genre(which was almost single-handedly created by CB).They're different in too many ways to count. Not that this show even begins to compare to Cowboy Bebop.Just thought I'd defend this great show.:)

Name one children's show that does have a plotline. Seriously. This anime is aimed at children under 12. Cartoons and animes like that rarely has a plot. Kids aren't there to think 'WHAT A GREAT PLOT! THIS IS SO DEEP!' they're there to watch and enjoy. I'm pretty sure everyone here complaining about it is over 12, soi it's not even aimed at you. Just because you think it's stupid doesn't mean anything really, it's if the age it's aimed at think it's stupid.
Hell, I kick myself for ranting about Beyblade everytime I do, cause it's aimed at 5-10 year olds. -- I am such a hypocrite.
(I'm serious, btw, if you read like the first 7 manga issues [cause I believe cards were introduced in issue 8 or somewhwere aroudn there...] you may look at it differently. back then it was basically just a manga that invovled a protagonist that was given powers and such and when someone trepassed on his soul or anyone else's close to him he would play a shadow game with them, a different game everytime, and the opponment would either die or go crazy and yaddayadda. I wonder if it had stuck to it's original idea would people nowadays be calling it over rated...)

    Anywho....

Evangelion can be over rated at times. X) At least for people who seek symbolism. X) 'OMG!!! THERE GOES SHINJI'S MIND!! THERE'S SYMBOLISM BEHIND THIS!!!' XP it's all random dmanit. :p
Utena symbolism lookers are worse tho. :p
    \
EDIT: And what's wrong with kid's anime? They have children down there too in case ya didn't notice. --

Hey, i am just talking about my opinion... remember, this is a thread based totally on opinons.

Yu Gi Oh isnt what i like because i like plot. Simple as that.

Thats 1 reason i like X/1999 so much!
