Roneri looked at him, "That was some attack." She blinked and put a hand on Raziel's shoulder, forcing him back as one of the other group was coming this way. She backed into the shadows, and moved away. She didn't want to give herself away just yet, though she would attack if necessary. She narrowed her eyes.

 

Athena had somehow found her way up and into the city and she gasped. She couldn't believe how much damage the attack had done. In the distance she saw her younger sister and Darien. She approached them timidly and said, "Reina, is that you?"

*Reina*

Reina turned and saw Athena, her long lost older sister. Tears welled up in her eyes and she ran into Athena's arms and whispered, "I thought I'd lost you to."

"No, you never lost me I was always in your heart." Athena answered.

Reina smiled and went to look into her sister's blue eyes but then saw that they were now red and she began to cry and said, "They turned you... they turned you..."

 

Darien blinked and looked at Athena's eyes at Reina's statement and gasped and said, "Who turned you? Was it Leon?"

Darien just couldn't believe she had been turned and then he shrugged and said, "Now you can't blame this one on me kid."

 

Raziel held to the wall like a spider. He blended into the wall like he was part of it.

His eyes became sharp so he can see with perfect sight in the dark.

He thought to Roneri "Who is it that is coming?"

Leon suppressed a growl in his throat. It was definitely Darius' right-hand lady...so then, where was Darius? And then, there was a new scent. It stank of deep, dark pits, and fire.

<Athena...Darius must be close, because his minions are here. I want you to come back, please, I'm not sure where that turncoat Darien is, or Darius himself. It could get dangerous...I don't know what these two are doing here.>

"Hey- you're not fooling me, the pair of you!"

 

Athena received Leon's message then thought quickly back, "Darien's up here. I somehow ended up back up at the city and i found my little sister. I'm bringing her with me and I'll try to lose Darien when we get down there. I'm on my way, Leon!"

"Reina, " Athena whispered, "We have to go underground, I have to help a friend of mine and I want you to come with me. I know that between myself and him we'll both be able to make sure Darius doesn't get to you and I'm sure we could use your help."

Reina nodded her head and the two sisters headed down weaving in and out and taking random turns at places until they were sure that they had left Darien far behind. They had even slipped back down when Darien's gaze was in the other direction. When they finally reached them Athena looked around for Leon and surveyed the fight with mild interest.

 

Darien had looked away from the two sisters for a moment then when he went to ask why Reina had such a big mouth they were gone. He searched around the area for awhile oblivious to the pothole that the girls had gone down until he fell into it. He then began to wander around going in the opposite direction the others had taken.

Leon heard Athena and her sister arrive before he saw them. He kept one eye on Roneri and her companion while turning his head slightly to gaze at Athena. A ghost of a smile appeared on his lips. "Hello again, Athena."

Upon seeing her little sister, he turned away completely from Darius' second and the other. He walked up beside her. He was about to speak, but then stopped, seemingly ashamed.

"You are Reina. You're a different sort of beauty from your sister."

He stopped. He still felt that sense of shame because...because he had turned Athena. This child seemed to see through to his heart. He smelled the faint, familiar odour of the King. It smelled like sage and cloves.

"You...the...Darius touched you? He...he left a strong smell...You poor child...he didn't tell you anything, did he?"

Again, Leon stopped, paused, and then forced himself to go on.

"Child, you should hate me. You must hate me. I...I am the one who turned your sister," he said. <It will be easier for me if you hate me. I can live with myself if you hate me.>

Leon didn't know how to speak to this young girl. He wasn't but a child when he'd been turned over to the eternal night. He had never learned to speak to children. He would try his best, though.

Athena smiled at Leon and looked down at her sister and said, "Reina, this is my friend Leon... he hadn't meant to turn me, it was an accident. I cut myself on something at home and then, well he started to drink my blood but stopped himself. Then another friend, Vencil, he came and tried to drink my blood but Leon stopped him and then well the same wound reopened and Leon couldn't stop this time and turned me at the last minute so I wouldn't die."

Reina looked from Leon to Athena and then whispered, "You two like each other a lot don't you?" She then looked up at Reina and for the first time in a long time she truly acted like a child and hugged him and said, "It's alright you tried to save her. It's not your fault and besides if you hadn't turned her I would never have gotten to see her again."

Then Reina looked up at him and said, "You need to be stronger and control your instincts better you baka."

Athena laughed then said, "Now now Reina, calm down, we still have others to worry about."

Athena then looked at Leon and thought, "My sister figures stuff out fast."

Leon looked down at the child holding him hostage by the waist.

<It's...okay? No! It's not okay...>

Leon glanced back at Athena. <She's sharp-minded. I... I don't know how to deal with children, though. How am I supposed to answer her?>

Leon decided to give an honest answer a shot. "Thank you, Reina, for your forgiveness...Yes, I was very much a baka to let my instincts control me."

He smiled, careful not to bare his fangs, lest he shock the child. <Though I have a tough time imagining her getting shocked.>

He put his arms once around Reina, giving her a little hug. His smile was empty and fake now. <If nobody even resents what I've done, how can I atone for it? Is my atonement to save this child from my former teacher and friend? I will do what is asked of me...>

 

"Hey- you're not fooling me, the pair of you!"

Roneri narrowed her eyes and smiled, "The night see all...Leon." She said, echoing around him as if she were every where. She stayed in the shadows, "And that includes you..."

In moments, Athena had arrived with Reina. She smirked, "Ah. And the little brat has come to rescue you." She said, signaling for Raziel to show himself. She casually walked out of the shadows and revealed herself, "I'll enjoy killing you..." She said, tauntingly at the child.

She looked at all three of them, careful to pay attention to all of there movements.

 

Rian heard noises where Leon and the other were andcursed to herself before turning back to Michael, "Damnit! Listen...Michael is it? My name is Rian, if you want to know. And the only reason I'm not killing you at this moment, is cause I'm not as heartless as the rest of your kind. Now, beat it, before I change my mind!"

With that she quickly went back to where Leon was, and heard Athena's explanation to her sister:

Rian's teeth clenched together and her hands balled up into fists at her sides as a sudden anger rose inside her.

Then Reina looked up at him and said, "You need to be stronger and control your instincts better you baka."

Leon decided to give an honest answer a shot. "Thank you, Reina, for your forgiveness...Yes, I was very much a baka to let my instincts control me."

She started to shake uncontrollably, "How...how could you..." Her eyes suddenly flashed back up at Leon but her words were for Athena. "He turned you....He turned you!! And you call him friend?? You forgive him that quickly and forget the fact that you will never be human again?!!!! Now you laugh...like he was only a child that did a bad thing....how could you..."

Rian didn't know what reasons, or feelings they had for each other, she was too furious to care. All she knew was that Leon was no better than any other vampire and that Athena was corrupted by him....the little girl as well.

Then Roneri showed up, "I'll enjoy killing you..." She said, tauntingly at the child.

Rian's anger doubled, "Another one...all they care about is killing...and corrupting...This will end!!"

"Whatever..." Rian said to Michael as he helped her up. He then watched as she went back over to Leon, who had now been joined by the girl, and presumably, her sister.
<Interesting... She really doesn't like me very much...> Then he noticed something.
<What? More of them... Damn it! I should have smelled them long ago... Too weak... Should have been paying attention...>
Michael watched as the small girl hugged Leon.
<Touching... Too bad it can't last very long with our visitors...>
And then one of them showed themselves. Michael grabbed his sword out of the ground, readying it. He noticed that she wasn't paying attention to him, only Leon and the two girls.
<It's Darius' right-hand girl, Roneri... Just great...>
"I'll enjoy killing you..." she said.
Michael then glanced over at Rian, who was now trembling with anger.
<Things are about to get very bad down here... Unless...>
He jumped up to the ceiling, crawling along it, until he was over Roneri. He then threw his sword down in front of her. It crashed into the ground, releasing a shower of electricity. In the confusion it caused, Michael jumped down from the ceiling to retrieve it.
"Roneri..." he said. "I don't believe there's going to be any killing today." He raised his sword up. "My name is Michael. And you see..." He pointed at Rian. "That girl bested me in battle. So now, by my code of honor, I must protect her and her group."
He lowered his sword a bit. "Besides... You're one of Darius' minions... Which means you have to live to give him a message..." He smiled. "The hunt is on... I'm the hunter... He's the hunted..."

Rian was knocked out of her angry thoughts by Michael's electrical display and appearance.

"Roneri..." he said. "I don't believe there's going to be any killing today." He raised his sword up. "My name is Michael. And you see..." He pointed at Rian. "That girl bested me in battle. So now, by my code of honor, I must protect her and her group."

Rian blinked like a confused child and her anger diminished greatly at Michael's words, "Protect....me?"

She quickly shook her head, her hood falling back again as her scowl returned, "I dont understand this idiot...he's a vampire thats for sure...but...but whats with this honor code? And why does he want Darius dead if he's the Vampire king? Grr...this is so confusing!!"

A spell was ready in her mind, just in case Michael failed in whatever the hell he was trying to do and this other vampire attacked; still holding back the desire to attack every vampire in the area, including those in "her group".

 

Athena glared at Roneri and said, "You underestimate my younger sister. She is not one that can easily be defeated and I will not let you harm her. Both of us are now of the undead and both of us are full vampires. You may have experience but I have something more on my side."

"Rian, I am not one to hold grudges unless they are against my family and those I do call friends." Athena began, "Leon saved me from allowing my former Master to turn me. I had been his slave for a long time and he had decided it was time to turn me. Leon saved me and then protected me against another vampire called Darien. I vowed to protect Leon and stay with him, I also wanted to see my sister again and find her. I still needed to explain to her why Father banished me from our home." she paused to look at Reina and then continued, "I was raised in an Yamamori family. Every single one of us had been trained since birth to follow its path. I was different though, I just couldn't understand why we were suppose to hate all the vampires just because they were vampires. I knew that vampires had once been human so I couldn't understand why we all just couldn't get along.
Father knew that I was feeling like that and so he took me with him every time he hunted. One night we found a young vampire boy with his mother and baby brother. Father killed the mother and when he went to kill the boys I tried to stop him. I failed to save both of them but someone saved the little baby and the boy was taken by the Yamamori and he was used as an example. That is why I never came home that night and that night was when I was taken as a slave."

Athena paused to look down at Reina and said, "Reina, don't think little of our Father for that. He had intended to come back for me but he had no idea I had been taken and when he did find out he put you to work in a safer location and our parents came after me. I don't know who killed them or when or where but that is what happened that night."

Athena then said to Rian, "If I learned anything from my parents it was that anger and violence can never bring true peace, only more violence and anger. I have no real reason to hate him or his kind in general. I believe that if one can accept the differences and remember that originally all things were good and there is no true evil then all will be well."


Reina looked up at her sister and then at Leon and then to Rian and said, "Rian, the only reason I accept Leon is because well, if my sister can forgive him for doing what he did to her, then why should i get all worked up over it. " then in response to what Athena had said about that night, "I always thought you were slightly crazy to oppose father but when you didn't come home with him I found myself wondering if you were right. But I pushed that thought out of me but I still hate vampires. I can only stand you and Leon because you are my sister and Leon is your friend."

Reina then smiled up at Rian and stood next to her and said, "I am going to help us escape. I will set up an barrier that will only last for a few minutes but it should give us enough time to escape. If you and Athena help me with it I'm sure that we could gain a few more minutes or possibly an hour with it."

 

Darien found himself on the surface and he walked through the ruined city. He saw a heaped figure in the distance and went to investigate. When he saw that it was Lord Darius he gasped and asked, "Lord Darius, are you alright? Is there anything I can do?"

Rian turned to them, listened to their story and replied, "You are soft...There can never be any peace between humans and vampires, cause vampires live off humans...or have you've forgotten? Humans fight for their lives, while vampires fight to feed until everything is gone, then they too will die....this is what I was taught by the Yamamori!"

Her anger grew once more as she looked away from them, "My mother...she was a Yamamori...fighting to see an end to the vampires...to the endless darkness and a bright future. But one night..."

She shook her head, "No, there's no time for this stupidness! Also...there's no need for a barrier...I never run from a fight! You guys escape, I'll hold them off myself! Unless, however, this Michael proves himself useful."

"Though I doubt it...I did drain him..he might actually need my help if he's to live....Protect me? Maybe you're the one who needs protecting...but why should I give it to a lowlife like you?...hmmm a low life with a honor code anyways." Rian thought as she turned her attention back to Roneri.

 

Raziel came out of the shadows with a vengeful look in his eyes.

"What should we do to them? This may be an interesting situation." he said to Roneri.

 

Anger blazed in Reina's eyes and she looked up straight into Rian's eyes and said, "My sister is not weak! And I believe that it isn't even odds to go up against them right now."

Reina had noticed that although Athena seemed fine she could still tell something wasn't completely right with her. She took hold of Leon's hand and said, "Let's go."

Athena gave Rian an apologetic look and said, "I'm sorry for my sister's harsh words but I agree that we should leave before Darien and Darius get here too."

Athena then felt slightly dizzy and wavered in her step for a second then she took hold of Reina's other hand and said, "Let's go."

 

Setsaki looked towards the five spirits, unable to remember who they were, he continued to stare until he decided to walk out of the church. As he walked, the spirits never moved, their gaze set on the altar of the cathedral.

As Setsaki walked slowly out of the church, he could hear angels singing, a song that was very strong.

He walked and walked, as he walked he gazed around the ruined church and saw the stained glass window actually letting in light, and the light was very bright.

When he stepped on a piece of glass, his arm broke out bleeding, as he walked, it continued to bleed, but he didnt even realize it. As he walked further and further, his other arm and both legs began to bleed as well. His entire body was now covered in blood.

But, he didnt notice as he continued his slow but steady pursuit of his past.

When he walked outside, he looked up, and for the first time, he saw the sun, he looked up at it and marveled at it's sheer beauty.

Then, he walked back into the chruch and at the altar, he cut off a strand of his hair and lay it there.

Then, he walked out of the curch, not sure where he was going, but he was sure it was somewhere.

Despite the fact that he had paid for eternal life with his own, he almost felt alive...
