Darius watched as Leon turned his back. He realized how foolish it was of him to attack. He could have forced Leon into an alliance, but his anger, instinct, and force of habit took over.

He overheard Athena speaking to Rian "...I am sure that Darius will not come after Leon when Leon's back is turned."

"You're right that I wouldn't stab him in the back, but there is no understanding. I just want to see his face when when he dies." Darius said. But he knew it was a lie.

Darius didn't want to let the three go but he was injured and had spent his magical energies protecting himself from the blessed light. Leon was always a worthy oponent as he had proved many times. Athena, although injured, showed an amazing strength for someone who was just turned. This new mage added another dimension to his problem. He realized that for the first time in ages he was quite possibly outmatched.

He retreated to his makeshift headquarters atop the highest building in the city. He addressed his faceless minions "Noah, Peter, Christian, it is time to gather my forces. Send word to the East and West. The King calls."

 

Darien smiled gently at the child and said, "I did not kill your parents so I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't mind, I'd prefer it if you didn't call me that."

Then one of Darius' other minions came up to him and said, "Lord Darius calls his army."

Darien nodded then shouted, "Roneri, Darius has sent someone to meet back up with him and I have the child."

Then Darien picked up the girl and leaped up onto the nearest building.

ooc: Athena said it was okay for me to kidnap Reina.

 

Roneri quickly turned around at Darien's voice. She blinked, "Dont lose that little twirp. She'll be useful later on." She said, turning around and heading to the building Darius was in. She moved with catlike speed and agility, and pure obedience in her eyes. Though it wasn't like her to rush to her lord's side like a pet, she had taken a liking to Darius and would prefer him to stay alive, or at least outlive her.
If anyone dies... She though as she began to jump from building to building top, It's gonna be one of those nasty Yamamorii.

When she arrived, Darius had already been there. She walked over to his side, "Are you alright?" She asked, offering a balanced hand to him.

 

I stood in the alleyway across from Darien, and there I overheard what then demon was saying, "Lord Darius is calling for his army."
I thought "I shall go to this meeting to see if I am fit to be allied with his Lord Darius."
Then I walked down the side street toward Lord Darius' place.

 

Setsaki walked out of the house to his own, he was pondering to himself, Wenn das Mädchen jetzt sterben soll, wie wird sie uns sparen?

As he walked into his own home, he put on his sunglasses and trench coat and walked outside again, as he walked into the rubble of the city, he kept wondering.

 

"Are you alright?" Roneri asked, lending her hand to support him. He almost knocked it away but only drew back from her. "I'm fine." He said. "A few sparks from a minor mage and the spell of a long dead human are no threat to me."

Darius started "Did you find anything on the trail of the Yamamorii?" Darius smelled human nearby. "I appreciate your concern. But you didn't need to bring me a snack." Darius saw they had a young girl with them. "Why hello, do you know who I am, little one? You can call me uncle Darius. Who is it you remind me of?" He then looked to Roneri. "Who is it that she reminds me of, Roneri? Why did you bring her?"

 

Roneri drew her hand back. She glanced behind her to Darien and the girl.
"She is the human Athena's younger sister, so we believe." She looked at Darius, "We thought she might come in handy tracking Leon." She blinked, "That is...If you would not mind the trouble of us bringing the little nuisance with us." She glanced behind her once more and narrowed her eyes, glaring at the girl, "That one has a mouth on her..."

"If you need help... I have a place where she can heal. No one knows about it, not even the Yamamori," the girl had said.

Leon gave her a look of gratefulness, but was torn by indecision. Athena...the last thing she said before she became unconscious was that he should go back and face Darius...and that she didn't want to cause him pain.

Leon gave one last look behind him. Darius was gone. <There's nothing I can do now except look after Athena.>

Relief flooded Leon's senses. A safe place...A safe place after all this madness. It was exactly what they needed, he decided.

He nodded to Rian, and if she didn't take that as affirmation, spoke. "You do me a great service. Please, bring us to your safe place."

Vencil slowly began to realize that, in his stone state, he was becoming more aware of his surroundings. It was a strange feeling...
<The girl... Athena... She brought me to safety... Her strength has greatly increased, hasn't it?>
He then began to think about what he had done.
<I turned myself into stone as a last resort, to attempt to save myself... Yet only now do I realize that it was a futile effort... I'll die as soon as I return to my normal state, with or without the Yamamorii blood needed to heal my wound... But there is always one last thing I could do... At least I'd take some others with me... Fine, I guess that's what I'll do... Maybe my first decent act in my whole life...>
He began drawing in the energy required for his final act. He scanned the area, sensing that no humans would be killed, only vampires.
<Good... Well then... Goodbye everyone... I'm sorry, Yelsa...>

His body returned to normal. And as he died, he released every bit of energy he had left in him in a large explosion.

<Goodbye...>

When the light faded, Vencil's body was gone.

 

I headed toward Lord Darius and saw him standing with some fellow vampiress, I hesitated for a minute but then continued toward him.

I was about to introduce myself when I saw a blinding light in the air. What is that? Where did it come from?I thought.

Leon nodded to Rian, and if she didn't take that as affirmation, spoke. "You do me a great service. Please, bring us to your safe place."

Rian nodded then turned around to scan the area, all the while thinking, "What am I doing? What am I doing??"

Finding what she was looking for, Rian quickly walked up to it, motioning for Leon to follow. She knelt down next to the manhole she was looking for and slid the top off.

"Quick! Before something bad happens." Rian said.

Once Leon was down the ladder and into the darkness, Rian quickly followed. And just as she slid the lid back on, a flash of light appeared through the lid and the ground shook as an explosion above took place. Rian was thrown from the ladder to the floor.

"Ouch...damn...what was that?!" Rian muttered as she got back to her feet. She then cast a spell to cause a ball of light to appear in her hand and looked at Leon, "Are you alright?"

 

Roneri looked at the girl, until she saw light approaching from all directions. She looked around. She hissed, here on the roof they were fully exposed to what ever it was that was coming.
"Darius....." She said, giving him a warning.

*Michael*

Michael turned towards the explosion.
"Hmph..." He shook his head. "A1 vampire's suicide blast... Fool..."
<A useless ability, killing of the one that uses it... Pah...>
His red eyes were glowing in the darkness as he surveyed the rest of the area. He could smell several people, mostly vampires and halflings, but one scent in particular caught his attention.
"That smell..." he said out loud. "That could only be the scent of Darius... And wait... His most powerful general, too? heh heh heh..." He grinned. "Soon, the world will know no greater power than mine..."

 

Raziel looked up at Roneri and screamed "Run into the building as fast as you can. "

<It might not harm you if you are in the building.> he thought.

But, then he realized that the building would not be safe either. He ran next to the building and jumped up to the roof. As he was in the air he noticed a hole opening in the alley, opposite of the ladder Leon took, and tried to grab Roneri.

He thought he could somehow safely get her there before the. blast. She resisted as she went toward Darius.

Well I tried to help you.

He ran toward the opening and slipped down into it.

 

Roneri pulled her arm back. She growled at him, "I can leave myself, thank you." She said, relieved that there was a way to get down. She looked at Darius, "He found a way out, hurry!" She said, jumping down, into the hole just as the light hit. She looked at him, and watched the top of the building, "Don't die...." She whispered.

 

"Darius....." Roneri said. But this warning was not needed.

He watched as Reina's shadow grew and realized an incredible energy must have been unleashed behind him. He grabbed Reina and threw her at Roneri "Here, catch!" He then tried to leap away from the approaching radiation, but didn't make in time. He was hit with the full force of the blast.

He was tossed into the wind, and thrown from the building, like one of Cerberus' chew toys.

As Michael watched the light grow, he realized that it wasn't exactly as he had expected.
"It's still growing... It should have disappeared long ago... Damnit! It's coming this way!!"
He quickly jumped off of the building he was on, and spotted a manhole nearby.
"Perfect..."
He lifted the cover off, and dropped down, just as the light passed over the opening. He jumped to the side, barely avoiding the energy blast. As he got back to his feet, he pulled out his sword, and tested it to see if anything had been broken. Sure enough, the blade crackled with electricity, just as it should. The energy was still pouring in through the opening, though.
"Looks like I've gotta find another way out... That blast had better not have killed Darius..."
He began to walk through the tunnels, thinking to himself.
<Hmm... His scent... There was something odd about it... I could tell that it was the scent of the king of vampires... But it was as though it wasn't entirely the scent... As though he's not actually the king... Could it be? Neh... Too bad... He'll still become my dinner...>
As he was walking, he saw light coming from one of the tunnels, and shadows, as well.
<People... heh heh... And so it gets more interesting...>
He turned the corner, and faced the group. Two halflings, one male, one female, the male carrying a female vampire, who seemed to be unconscious.
<Well well... If they have any interesting Dark Gifts, I might just have myself another meal on hand here...>
He grinned, and slowly walked towards them.

"Are you alright?"

"I'm fine," replied Leon uncertainly.

Leon's ears pricked uncomfortably, as he heard the near-noiseless sound of approaching undead footsteps. He motioned to Rian.

"Act normal," he mouthed, since he knew her ears were as good as his. He didn't want to drop Athena, but instinct called for him to have a weapon onhand. His concern for Athena won over any doubts. He alerted this undead one that his presence was known.

"What is it that you are after? Are you another one after the girl? Are you the Vampire King's lackey, sent to find me? Do you wish to capture my companion, the magess, because of her powers? State your business, dead one," he said slowly, accentuating the verbs.

<Ego mos vereor haud malum , quod Ego mos vereor haud vir. Jeg skræk bare nemlig mig sjæl og nemlig Athene. Mig legeme er ephemeral.> Leon thought privately.

He hoped that Athena would not wake...though it would relieve him if she did.

"My business?" Michael responded to this series of questions. "Hmph... First of all, I am not one or Darius' lackeys... I hunt them and devour them for breakfast... Am I after the girl? It depends... What's so special about her that so many people are after? The other girl? Her powers pale in comparison to mine... Or perhaps you should convince me why I shouldn't kill you all right now...? How about that?"
He cocked his head, grinning wider.
<Now, will they give in, or will I have to use force...? Or maybe... Hmm...>
"Or perhaps... Why is it that you would seem to despise Darius? Do tell... I am quite intrigued..."

Leon closed his eyes painfully. He searched for the words to explain his connection to Darius. "Darius stole many things from me...including my life. We were friends once, he and I. Our friendship turned bitter when a stranger arrived in our midst. This stranger gained Darius' ear and thus was a seed of distrust planted in the bitter cleft of his heart. Even now, after a thousand years and more, I do not understand."

Leon gave the vampire a stare of distaste. "But I will not open up in such a manner to a stranger. Tell me, stranger, your name and purpose? You skirt the edges of my question, and still you ask more questions when I want answers."

Leon looked down at Athena. "There is nothing special about this girl to you. She is nothing for you. I am nothing special to you either. The magess may indeed be able to match you...but of this I have no proof. So you see, your questions will remain without answer unless I have my answers."

<Answers...answers. Answers are what it's all about...Heh...Mig legeme er ephemeral.>
