Leon swung around, fully in the present now. "Darius is here?!"

Leon ground his teeth together, Athena forgotten for the moment. "Why do you continue to follow me, everywhere I go searching for peace?"

Leon clenched his fists. "Jer bande ond ånd af at større ond ånd! Leave! There is nothing I can give you!"

Leon choked back a sob. <I don't know what it is you want...>

Inadvertedly, Leon had broadcasted his thought for Athena as well.

 

Leon walked over to Darius and grabbed his wrists.

"It is important for a king to know the mind of his enemies." Leon said

Darius shuddered; a memory from a dead age came flooding back to him.

<My enemies are everywhere.>He thought. <They seek to take away me regency and rule through the Prince.>He watched as Leon talked with the hangers on of the court < I must protect him from such people.>

Leon looked through him and said "Who is your guest?" His guest. His maker and destroyer. He remembered the fateful night he met Griegor.

Darius stood on the castle parapet, watching the rising moon. "I see you are losing sleep?" said a voice in his ear. Darius turned, a tall white haired man stood behind him. "I can help you destroy your enemies, make them never see the light of day again." Darius stared at the man, he did not wonder how he snuck up behind him, or how he got in the castle, or how he would destroy his enemies, as he stared into glowing red eyes, he only wondered: <Is it true?>

Leon swung around jolting Darius back to reality. "Why do you continue to follow me, everywhere I go searching for peace? Jer bande ond ånd af at større ond ånd! Leave! There is nothing I can give you!"

"Jo hvor kan det være at. But you're right that there is nothing you can give. For what I want I must take. Until then perhaps I can give something to you..."

 

Meanwhile, outside, the thick clouds covering the sky started to gather and lighting streaked across it, followed by thunder. Rain started to fall soon afterwards and in just seconds the ruined city is soaked.

A young woman, her face hidden and protected from the rain under a red hood, knelt next to the vampire she had just slain. After making sure it was dead and had nothing of value, she approached the body of a Yamamori soldier who was killed earlier from the now dead vampire. Finding and taking several clips filled with Yamamori bullets, the girl got back to her feet and walked away.

"There’s a lot of fighting going on…and there are rumors that the Vampire King Darius is here as well…hmmm…" she thought to herself as she walked down the streets, rain splattering down on her coat.

Rian Kanai loved wandering the streets in the open like this. It was much easier to let her foolish prey come to her instead of the other way around. She especially liked walking around where the humans lived. Not for hunting, but just to be around the presence of pure human beings with hope, or rather pride, that they might and should be able to live above ground. There weren’t many left nowadays.

Rian suddenly stopped when she felt something from a house that stood away from the others. She stopped in front of it and let some of her vampiric self come forth before quickly pushing it back again, but not before clearly sensing several vampires and humans inside the building. They seemed to be fighting or in some sort of conflict that didn’t necessarily meant the physical kind.

The young woman shrugged and grinned under her hood, "Whatever…but, lets liven things up a bit."

She then started murmuring a spell as she raised her gloved hand in front of her. Her hand started to glow before electricity appeared and crackled around it.

"No one has a party without inviting me!" She formed the energy into a ball of electricity and threw it through a window into the house, where it erupted…

 

"What do you want from me?" Leon's thought echoed in her mind and she could sense a great deal of pain along with it. The thought that she could be causing that kind of pain to Leon made her feel terrible. Suddenly there was an eruption and she was brought out of her thoughts.

Athena was thrown back from the eruption and struggled to her feet. She had to get Vencil's statue of a body out of her old house before something horrible happened to it.

"Leon," She thought, "Cover me, I'm going to get Vencil's statue of a body out of here. We should probably leave soon... my father cast a spell in case anyone in his family was turned... let's just say if we want to escape without being severely harmed we must leave. The house now belongs to my kid sister."

"Jo hvor kan det være at. But you're right that there is nothing you can give. For what I want I must take. Until then perhaps I can give something to you..."

"Your gifts are like poison! If you give me anything like your last gift...I will be worse than dead."

The explosion startled Leon, but he gave no outward response. He tried to see the cause of the explosion through the window. There was a girl there...

<Leon, cover me.> thought Athena.

<Yes.> Leon replied. He quickly released two throwing knives into his waiting palms. Leon glanced over at Darius with a fierce glare of hatred, before returning his gaze to the window.

<We have to hurry...if that spell takes effect, I want only that it should hurt Darius...>

Leon was impressed with Athena's strength. She delt quickly and efficiently with Vencil, taking him outside the house.

Leon tensed, watching for any sign of movement.

 

Athena let out a sigh of relief when she had Vencil's statue body out of harms way, she then proceeded to stash him in an old courtyard where there were many statues that would conceal him. She then sent a thought out to Leon, "Okay I've hidden him and you need to get out now before it takes affect. I think you have about two minutes."

Athena then gazed up at the moon and thought, not realizing she hadn't blocked it from Leon, "I realize now that I am a burden to him. He would be a lot better off on his own... but am I unselfish enough to let that happen.... I have to be... I have to go from here... perhaps we'll meet again someday."

Athena then left the area determined to find a way to help Vencil and determined to do all she could to defeat Darius... in the meantime she would train herself.

*Reina*

Reina could see that a male and a female were outside and she could tell by their red eyes that they were vamps. She then went up to the door and opened it and said, "BE GONE YOU EVIL BEINGS! IT IS BECAUSE OF YOU THAT MY PARENTS ARE DEAD AND GOD KNOWS WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO MY SISTER! LEAVE OR I WILL MAKE YOU!"

 

Roneri smiled, "You're kidding me." She closed her eyes and sighed, "If you're all they sent to protect this place, then..." She opened her eyes, "Then they truly don't value your life." She began to walk closer, "Get out of my way, before I have to kill you."

"Okay I've hidden him and you need to get out now before it takes affect. I think you have about two minutes."

Leon took one last glance at Darius, thinking to warn him, but then turned and left the house by the back way. He didn't want to confront the girl who had set off that blast of lightning. He didn't need any more surprises or shocks tonight. He put his knives back in their sheaths.

"I realize now that I am a burden to him. He would be a lot better off on his own... but am I unselfish enough to let that happen.... I have to be... I have to go from here... perhaps we'll meet again someday," thought Athena.

<Was I...was I supposed to hear that?>

It took a moment to sink in. <Athena...Athena? ATHENA!>

Leon howled out her name in his mind, but her mind was closed to him. <It's no use...I can't reach her...>

Leon felt a cold tear slide down his cheek, and then he was crying in earnest. Everything he found was lost to him. Any advantages he had could be turned against him. It was just like on the night he was betrayed... Could he trust no one?

Leon's mind turned stony once more. He fought to stay conscious...He didn't want to think of Denmark, Merrill and the Darius he'd once known. <Stay in the present. Stay in the PRESENT!>

Leon wiped away his tears. <Athena...>

 

Darien blinked when he saw the child come towards the door. She reminded him of someone and then it hit him. The child looked just like a mini version of Athena only the child had black hair instead of blond.

"Hey kid, your sister wouldn't happen to be Athena would it?" Darien asked then to Roneri he said, "Let's not kill her we could use her to our advantage... I mean Leon has a soft spot for Athena and Darius is after Leon surely if we lure Athena to us using her sister we capture Athena and lure Leon to us and thus Leon is given to Darius."

 

"ATHENA!" Athena could hear Leon's thought and the urgency that came with it.

"Leon, are you in trouble? Do you need my help?" Athena thought back quickly to him... "Where are you? I'll be there as soon as I can. You're not still in the house, are you?"

Thinking Leon was still in her house, Athena ran back in through a side entrance, and at that moment Athena's house began to glow bright white and light as pure as sunlight erupted from the house.

"AH!" Athena shouted as the light engulfed her.

Her last thought was incomplete and she went out before she could finish it, "Leon, I'm..."

*Reina*

"You know my sister?" Reina whispered she shook her head and took a step back father into the house and said, "I haven't invited you in and I don't plan on inviting you in. You can't come in here unless I invite you."

She then pulled out her gun from her belt and said, "Just because I'm only ten years old doesn't mean I'm not a force to be reckoned with... I have great aim and I'm not to bad at spells either."

Then Reina saw a great blast of light and knew it was being emitted from the neighborhood her old house used to be in and she wondered, "Is Athena fighting the vampires over there, has she always been so close?"

"AH! Leon, I'm..."

It was Athena...she went back for him...

<She went back to the house! Hellfires, that spell of her father's must have taken effect!>

Leon was completely awake once more. He raced towards the house, and tried to open the back door. The door would not open. Leon gave the door a powerful kick, but nothing happened. He couldn't go inside because he hadn't been invited in to Reina's home. It was Reina's home now. Leon only knew who Reina was through Athena's thoughts. A small girl, bright-eyed...But back to the matter at hand.

<What am I going to do? She's hurt...maybe dying...and it's my fault once more. I am the reason that she is in there. She came back for me...Damn it!>

Leon walked half-way around the house. Darius was inside! He came to the window. <I have no choice. I have to ask a favour of that monster.>

"Darius! Darius, hear me! The girl is inside with you. Save her, bring her to me and...and I'll do anything you ask of me."

<Will I have to give myself over willingly to him?>

Darius was about to explain his offer when a blast of lightning erupted in the house. He was thrown into the wall. He fell to the floor, momentarily dazed.

Upon clearing his head he got up and realized Leon and the girl had gone. An ominous feeling overcame him, he remembered the girl had said something about a curse. He was about to leave by the side door when Athena burst in, and knocked him with the door into the wall again.

Then the spell was unleashed and a brilliant wave of holy energy spread out through the house. He was knocked down and seriously weakened by the force of it.

"Darius! Darius, hear me! The girl is inside with you. Save her, bring her to me and...and I'll do anything you ask of me." said Leon.

<Anything> thought Darius, he quickly scavenged over the house, and found Athena. He picked her up and brought her outside. He put her down and addressed Leon. "I think you've made a mistake, mig prins."

He drew Tuebor and plunged it towards Leon's midrift.

 

*Hmm what happened.* Athena thought as she realized she was being carried.

She managed to open her eyes and noticed it was Darius who was carrying her out of her old house. she quickly closed her eyes and when he put her down she heard him draw his sword. She saw that he was about to plunge it through Leon's midriff so she acted on impulse and forced her protesting body up and the sword went through her back just missing her spine.

"Leon..." She whispered.... "Go... he'll kill you... GO!"

 

Roneri was about to break in the walls of the building when she saw, and even felt the effects of the spell, however, it was just minor from this distance. She turned around, and her eyes widened as she saw the building. She didn't move for a moment, but then she turned her attention back to Reina.
Gods, let my lord be safe... she thought to herself.

"I'm not in the mood to play, you little midget. It's either you can let me in like a good little girl, or I can put so much abuse to the building it will fall on top of you." She kneeled so Reina could see her face to face, "We wouldn't want such a cute little girl to get hurt now would we?" She stood up, "If you let me in I might even take you to your sister."

Leon shook his head in disbelief. "FOOL! WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!"

Leon knelt beside her quickly, ignoring the fact that Darius stood above him with the great sword Tuebor poised to strike once more.

"Fool..." he said more softly, close to tears. "I can't leave you here..."

Leon picked Athena up. "I said I would do anything you asked of me, Darius, but that did not include letting you slay me. And now her dedication to me has caused her pain once more. I'm going now. Don't pursue me or I swear that all will know our little...secret."

Leon walked, all the while looking down at Athena. "You're still awake, aren't you? You're a fool, you know. I would have healed. Tuebor cannot cause a blessed wound in wicked hands. You will heal as well, but your body is experiencing new changes...I don't know how long it will take."

Leon looked around. <Where can we go? >

Leon sighed and continued to search with his eyes.

<Måske mig bande er ikke netop indeværende vampirism. Måske mig bande er ligeledes at i den endeligt alles mig elske ones. Jeg er bande i sådan en smag at al hvem er nær mig lide nød. Måske sig ville være bedre i hans sted at blive ødelagt af Darius.>

 

Rian watched as, moments after she let her spell go, the house was engulfed in light. Several people raced out and Rian slowly approached them.

She stopped in surprise when she saw a girl vampire save the life of another. Rian then watched and listened as the vampire that was saved by the girl picked her up after he yelled at the girl.

It was then that she realized the attacker was the Vampire King, she had glimpsed him before some time ago.

"What have I walked into?" Rian muttered to herself, as Leon started walking away. "Grr...well it's too late now!"

She then quickly ran and stopped in front of him, blocking his path. Rian quickly pulled her hood back, causing her gray/white hair to become soaked from the rain that hadn't let up.

"Fool! You're just going to turn your back to the Vampire King!" she yelled at him. "He'll kill you!"

 

*Reina*
Reina glared at the female Vampire in front of her and said, "You can try it but just because the house may fall doesn't mean I won't get out in time.."

"Hmm.... I do want to see my sister though." Reina thought, "If she's alive, she'll help me fight these filthy creatures that killed our parents."

She grinned and said, "Do your worst." then she shut the door.

Reina then headed towards the secret back door and opened it... after she was sure that they were to busy at the front. She then began to sneak out.

*Athena*

Athena looked up at Leon and whispered, "If I'm a fool so are you... don't you realize that because people care about you they want to help you? It is not a curse." then to Rian she said, "It would seem that Leon and Darius have a certain understanding, Miss.... I am sure that Darius will not come after Leon when Leon's back is turned."

She then looked back up at Leon and raised a hand to the side of Leon's left cheek and said, "Don't give up, fight, I'll only slow you down. You must leave me so that you can live... I'll be fine, I don't want to cause you any more pain.. I don't want to cause you any pain..."

Then Athena passed out.

 

Darien started to walk around the house to find the girl. He came upon her trying to sneak away. He grabbed her by the arm and said, "Now why are you trying to get away little one. I'll take you to your sister."

 

Rian stared at Athena as she passed out. Her words...never had Rian heard such selfless words coming from a Vampire. She then looked up into Leon's face and, now that she was up close, realized that he was only half vampire.

Rian gritted her teeth in indecision, then sighed exasperatedly, "If you need help... I have a place where she can heal. No one knows about it, not even the Yamamori." she said quickly to Leon.

"What am I doing?" she asked herself, finding no answer. "See! This is what happens when you put your nose in other people business...you get confused..."

 

Reina looked up at Darien and said, "Fine I will come quietly with you on the condition that you take me to my sister."

She glared at him as she pulled out of his grasp and said, "So don't touch me with your grimy hands you murdering beast."
