Debate Samurai or Ninja

truly the only way to really figure this out would be...to go back in history and match two up...but seeing as that is thuroughly impossible...the second best option is to try it out in modern times. obvisouly for the sake of life a true sword couldnt be used...so in terms of the killing who would win is well almost impossible, but in terms of who would tire more quickly or who had the better swordsmenship could be found out.

In terms of the swordsmenship, as practicing matches could be done, its a matter of who had the better training is swordsmenship. to be perfectly precise is impossible because the levels of training are drasticlly different in kenjutsu and fencing. because the style are so different, only in battle could a true more "powerful" style could be found. ive personally beaten fencers with Niten Ichi Ryuu, but that doesnt prove a thing. also using a two sword style against a single sword style is very different. foot work is drastically different as well. as Kenjutsu is a much mroe aggressive style, whereas fencing is a very refined stlye relying more in parrying than following up with an attack. Kenjutsu relys heavily on attacking then withdrawing an defending and then attacking again. the style of Iaijutsu is even more different. the usual kata start and end in the same place and start with the katana in teh scabbard and end with it there. so its an instantaneous style of fighting.

overall as stated by the paragraphs presented before, there are a huge amount of denominators which make it almost impossible to really figure out.

 

Since when do knights fence?

 

well...what would you call it? theres a technical name for it though im not sure what it is...either way i really know just abnout nothing about Europe...the swords i do know fairly well....as ive made it point to study edged weapons of all types, thought with an emphisis on asian weapons.

 

You mean a rapier? Please tell me how fencing swords are going to be a help when your opponent has a shield, plate mail and chain mail on.

 

i meant the type of sword fighting knights did...i really havent got a clue what that would be called...again i know very little about Europe other than their edged weapons...

well, i voted for samurai. but i dont really like the idea of killing someone just because your master ordered u to. and im also against killing and wars and stuff like that. so if i would live in ancient japan i would rather be an artist or an actor or even a merchant( yea im a pacifist). yea i just cannot imagine myself as a fighting person. :sweat2:

 

eh. artist really didnt make much of a living...neither did actors...merchants although they could gain a large amount of money...still were at the mercy of the samurai class...

 

yea i know that, but as long as normal ppl dont do anything criminal theres no reason to be afraid of samurais. but its different for ninjas, ppl are always afraid of ninjas.

 

Uh, why? Ninjas would be targetting high profile people, like military leaders and such... unless you were an absolutely bat **** insane artist making incredible calls to rebel that were incredibly potent you wouldn't have anything to fear anyways, and if you WERE assassinated odds are that would work AGAINST the contractor.

 

ha ha, i like your point, u surely have good imagination. :anime: yea, ninjas usually kill only important ppl, but they can kill really anyone who gets in their way, someone like targets' servants. Or ninjas can just burn down the whole village if they r paid to do so. While samurai just goes and does whatever his lord ordered him to, ninja usually has to do the job quietly and fast, and has to hide his identity(by wearing mask)so no one will see his face. So while everyone knows who the samurai are, the identity of ninjas are unknown, and unknown things scare ppl alot.

 

Well I wouldn't say the ninjas killed everyone in there path cause

1 the ninja would only do what they are supposed to do.
2 they would sneak around enemies they wouldn't kill everyone in thier path.
3 if they get spotted they would try to escape out of the enemies vision.
4 they would only kill if they were in threat (Kill then be killed they would do).

but yes their were times when the ninja wuld do a assaination mission.But they weren't like the samurai who to tryout there new sword some of them would try it out on the villiges know body could stop them. I'm not saying every samurai were like that

Well DUH of course their were ninja's that were mean and not nice but all I am saying is that they are not all how you think cuz most u people sterotype about ninjas the bad guy the mojority were people who did things for money and etc, so you's are saying all the sammurai are nice guys they were killers just like the ninja's someone who kills isn't nice. :anime:

 

Ok, when did I -ever- say that samurai were all nice guys? If you actually read my posts I openly admit samurai performed massacres at times.

it was the samurai's right to kill a commoner...but although there are many cases of it happening i dont think you can openly say that they were a bad class of warriors because of it...

 

It was the samurai's order to kill a commoner if they broke the law but some of them still abused there power as the samurai.
