As far as Karma givers go:

    50 posts=1 Point o' Karma
    Anything above 50 posts:
Every 1,000 posts=+1 Extra Point of Karma
Every 100 Karma Points=+1 Extra Point of Karma
Every 1 Year of Membership at BJP=+1 Extra Point of Karma

    An example:
I have 500+ Points of Karma
I have at least One Year at BJP
    I have 1000+ Posts

So that means I should give you somewhere around 8 points?

Karma always has it's value. It's always older members that give more, and in the process over time, make you yourself look like an older member!

Sure, you start with nothing, but you eventually grow.

An advice that someone gave me:
"Try working on your posts harder. Don't just post whatever after whatever, because that just obviously doesn't deserve Karma. Try making them funny, or more informative, or fit the situation or Forum/Thread. And always THINK before you post"

Obviously I don't follow it to the last, because I'm often to relaxed, but you get there. This obviously doesn't mean that if you follow it will help you earn points every time you post, but it helps.

Now those words be braggin words ma friend. ;) I gotta ask, is there really anything that you get out fo having a lot of good karma? Besides respect and envy (if you even get those)?

Not really. I don't go everywhere pleading for Karma. It just comes, and yay. Should there be a case of "envy", it's pointless to me, because it's JUST Karma. Not that it's worthless, but it's not something to get upset over.

Respect wise, I may get some newbies one day or another with some questions or to talk, mostly the ones I welcome in the threads.

I understand if it's "just karma", but I guess some people do love getting a lot of karma. I did get upset over the time I recieved bad karmafor no reason though. That was pretty uncalled for and I didn't deserve bad karma the slightest 'bit.

i remeber getting bad karma from seishin but for what i don't remember, but it was probably something really stupid.

that sounds right but sometimes it doesn't seem that way.

three years of memebership= 3 points karma
    300+= 3 karma points
    50 post+= 1 karma point

No they aren't. They follow the same rules as the rest of us. Mods just usually have a bit more weight behind them when they become one ;)

Seishin's exactly right with the weighting though. BakaMattSu explained it all somewhere. Following that rule, I give out 11 points. Bad karma is weighted at half strength, so I'd take 5 points for bad karma in that example.

As far as seeing further back is concerned, there are hacks for it that I've seen on vBulletin.org, and there are hacks for seeing karma you've given out as well. Whatever Jelsoft's reasons were for not including those options automatically were, though, is beyond me.

However, if you know what to do, you can pull up any karma comment you've recieved that you want. ;) Here's the first karma I ever got:

For my first post no less. ;)

The trick is to do nothing stupid. As long as you follow that basic rule, you shouldn't get bad karma. Of course no one's perfect so of course you're going to screw but as long as it's nothing too severe, you should survive. Funny, for my first post I got bad karma cause some guy thought it was stupid.

    Spot on, that's what I thought! :p

Yep, basically. But, like you said, people are going to make mistakes sometimes. I think my biggest one was deciding to hang around with you people. Kiddin' guys, I enjoy your, uh, the company of your posts? I think BJP has its own groups of people that prefer one another. Like, they mostly give karma to people on their friends list, ones they know personally, etc., instead of giving it to strangers. Of course, assuming they have enough people to give it to that they diversify and don't get the, "Please spread some more karma around before giving it to *******". :)

    Check again, I didn't post that. :p

On my part I barely give out karma anymore, and frankly more often bad than good. My reasoning here is that bad karma is weighted less than good, and that people around here get a lot of good karma anyway. Of course, the actual content of the post is most important, but it does mean I give out bad karma a bit more freely than I would otherwise.

In my opinion, bad karma, given with a valid reason, is a good thing. It's been said before, it gives you a chance to think about why you got it, and to hopefully improve and better your ways. Interestingly enough I've gotten no *actual* bad karma in some time, despite the fact that I know I'm not perfect and indeed have done some pretty stupid things in the past. I don't know if people are squeamish about it or if they just give me good karma too often, or whatever, but that's the facts. :p

.......Somebody is ambitious. I'm the one posted the stupid remark actually just to get everyone on the same page.I can't recall if I've ever given bad karma. I probably have and just forgot. I think some people don't give it because they're afraid they'll get it, which is an unfortunate thing, but it happens.

Indeed it's possible, but I believe most BJP users have more maturity than to give back bad karma out of spite. :p I can speak partly from experience, all I've seen was a couple people complain to admins about getting bad karma they "didn't deserve."

All this fuss over a little number. Makes ya wonder how wise it is to have it enabled. :p

They complain cause they wanna get big and that's slowing them down. They wanna become mods one day, have 7 little green boxes(which I want) or so and be known throught the community......sounds sorta like life doesn't it?

Well, I said that. Since, I want to be active and be known throughout the forums like you said. I wasn't serious of getting that much karma power, but you all should get the point I am trying to make.

If you want to be active, and be known, there's only one mighty secret:
    POST OFTEN
Following that will do it. Why? You'll appear on lots of threads and such, so people know you are active. There's plenty of Forums where people know each other and stuff, and they don't have Karma system. The Karma system just organizes it a bit.

    *coughs*

You do have a point. :p But there's a thin line between posting often and spamming. One is not necessarily the other.

I guess you could say I'm living proof of that fact. :p I won't say I've never spammed because I'd be lying, but I don't think I've done so very much here.

In fact I was accused of being a spammer once, the person said that because I'd been here for a only year and had over 2000 posts that it meant I was a spammer, I don't think that person considered that I'm just very active all the time. :p

When I got unbanned, I posted 30 times in one day, but was it spam? Well, see for yourself. Look for all of my posts on September 29th if you want.

That my friends, is either dedication, or boredom. The line between spamming and posting isn't as thin as you think. You can obviously tell when a person is spamming and when it's a genuine post.

So you admit your faults. Excellent...

I think most people come here from boredom. I dunno, it seems like a place that the bored would flock too like sheep. Sure, there are lots of dedictaed users here (myself included), but I think that when people are bored, they give BJP a visit.
